The Upcoming MCU Movies That May Never Be on Disney+
Disney+ — prepping to take the world by storm — will rival the likes of Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu in terms of older content and original pieces. From the classic animated tales to the Avengers saga and upcoming original shows, the streaming platform, at a base rate of $6.99 per month, will join the steaming soiree with a vengeance.
Breaking away from the norms tied to most streaming services, Disney+ will possess a few differentiating factors. First off, you won’t be able to binge original content because episodes will release weekly, as is the case with Network TV.
Every piece of content on the platform will be downloadable; while Netflix picks and chooses what you can download, Disney will let you access everything. From a cheaper price to unlimited downloadable content, it seems like Disney+ has got it all worked out.
There’s only one problem: Disney+, according to TV Guide, will not feature any R-Rated movies. So, why is this a problem? According to We Got This Covered, Disney is toying with the idea of retaining the Merc with a Mouth’s R-rated glory.
Future ‘Deadpool’ movies within the MCU may never make it to Disney+
Following the Disney/Fox merger, the former gained access to Ryan Reynolds’ extremely popular character, Deadpool. Following this negotiation, one question immediately came to the table: how would Deadpool fit within Disney’s family-friendly Marvel brand? Would the MCU change his character, tone him down, or remove some of the foul language and inappropriate jokes?
What is Deadpool without an R-Rating; the rating is half of the character’s appeal? Recent news suggests that Disney plans to move forward with a Deadpool movie; however, how Disney plans to proceed is still unknown.
The Deadpool writers, speaking on behalf of the character’s future, recently stated:
The plan and the hope is that Marvel allows us to continue Deadpool in his R-rated universe that he lives in and also, hopefully over time, we get to play a little bit in the MCU sandbox as well.We Got This Covered
As of now, the future for Deadpool is unknown, yet he is expected to be sprinkled across the MCU and receive one or more standalone movies. If Disney decided to keep Deadpool’s R-rating and cut him down a notch when he works with the other Avengers, the Deadpool movies may never be available on Disney+.
Considering the platform will also be the home of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, this should come as no surprise. However, fans of the Marvel character may be disappointed to discover that future Deadpool movies will be unavailable for streaming on the seemingly limitless platform. Disney is unlikely to bend its rules and sacrifice its image for a single character. Disney prizes its family-friendly appeal way too much; that’s where the money is.
With kids grabbing the remote and hitting buttons at random, all Disney needs is a ten-year-old sitting down, clicking on what appears to be an average superhero tale, and discovering something much darker, much more grotesque, and much more inappropriate.
