‘The View’: Abby Huntsman Wins over Meghan McCain for This Cringe-Worthy Moment with Lupita Nyong’o
Meghan McCain is not the only Republican supporter on The View, believe it or not. Although not as loud or controversial, Abby Huntsman also identifies with the aforementioned political party. Both co-hosts were friends before the talk show and there are reports that McCain was the one to suggest Huntsman for the gig.
It’s usually McCain that makes headlines due to her outbursts at her fellow panelists but this time it’s her friend Huntsman. The incident happened during an interview with Lupita Nyong’o and the moment has already gone viral.
Sunny Hostin told Nyong’o that she loved Star Wars and fans were excited to see her reprise her role of Maz Kanata in The Rise of Skywalker. The View used the big screen in the background to show a photo of her character, which caught Huntsman’s eyes.
“How long did hair and make-up take?” Huntsman asked Nyong’o.
The problem is that Kanata is a character in the movie that is completely not real. The Oscar-winning actress only lends her voice to the character on-screen.
“That’s CGI,” Nyong’o replied. “It’s actually animatronic,” she then corrected.
In the background, McCain seemed to be shocked that Huntsman didn’t know the character was not actually the actress.
“I just saw the picture, I didn’t know,” Huntsman added.
Fans react to Abby Huntsman’s mistake
Viewers that saw the gaffe had a field day after Huntsman’s mistake and took to Twitter to react.
“Hard cringe,” a fan said.
“[Lupita] was about to smack her,” another viewer said.

“She asked twice,” one Twitter user noted.
“Bless her little heart,” another Twitter user wrote.
“Lupita dying on the inside at that question,” a viewer also commented.
Meghan McCain and Abby Huntsman’s friendship
The View co-hosts recently gave an interview where they talked about their friendship and their time on the talk show.
“We’re like salt and pepper, right?” Huntsman said in the People interview. “I always say, ‘Everyone needs salt and pepper and you need them both together.’ You don’t just want the pepper and you don’t just want the salt.”
McCain and Huntsman met while they both worked at Fox News.
“I think it was my mom, she was like, ‘You and Meghan have so much in common, you guys have got to just connect,’ ” Huntsman shared.
Although the media has tried to insinuate there’s drama between the two Republican hosts, McCain insists that they have a genuine friendship and support each other.
“We have had so many bad experiences in this industry, where women were not supporting other women. And I’ve seen it and experienced it, and Abby’s seen it and experienced it,” McCain said. “Everybody always tries to pit us against each other or act like there’s only one job for one politician’s daughter.
When McCain suffered a miscarriage last summer, it was Huntsman that was there for emotional support.
“I know there are women, when they experience miscarriages, can’t be around pregnancy, which I totally get,” McCain added. But it was different for her: Huntsman “got pregnant right after my dad died. … I thought it was so beautiful a reminder of the cycle of life.”
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. CT/PT.
