The View is known for its controversial discussion topics, as well as the strong opinions of its hosts. One host who constantly butts heads with other women is Meghan McCain. As the daughter of the late Arizona senator, John Mcain, Meghan holds very conservative views. This causes her to clash with many of her co-hosts.
The tension between the women is nothing new. But has the whole thing gotten so bad that Meghan wants to quit?
Meghan’s journey on ‘The View’
Meghan started out with The View as a guest host in 2008 and 2010. In 2017, she was finally brought onto the show full time. She now sits at the famous table with Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, and Abby Huntsman.
The drama between Meghan and the other hosts
Meghan is not one to keep her opinion to herself. Unfortunately for her, that opinion gets her into a lot of heated debates with her fellow co-hosts. Most recently, Meghan got into an argument with Behar while discussing President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign kickoff rally.
McCain started out defending Trump’s supporters.
“But beyond that, don’t belittle the crowd,” she said to Behar. “Don’t belittle the enthusiasm. Democrats have a lot to come. A lot of people are enthusiastic, and one of my producers was saying, ‘Why do people love him so much?’ It’s not just they love Trump so much. It’s they hate the same things Trump hates. That’s what’s going on.”
“Who?” Behar asked. “Black people, you mean? Immigrants? Who do they hate?”
The question frustrated McCain.
“You know what, Joy, really, I come here every day open-minded trying to explain it and it’s not a fun job for me,” she said to Behar. “I know you’re angry. I know that you’re angry that Trump is president.”
The argument continued to heat up until eventually, Meghan called Behar a “b***h.”
Meghan feels trapped
According to reports from The Daily Beast, Meghan feels like “a caged animal” amid all of the negative comments and backlash that she gets from speaking her mind on The View.
“It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week,” a source close to Meghan told the outlet. “If she doesn’t stay at The View, she will find other work.”
Though production has heard these reports, they don’t want Meghan to leave the show.
“We don’t want people to attack Meghan,” the show’s senior executive producer, Hilary Estey McLoughlin, told the outlet. “We’re happy to have Meghan there. I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”
But McLoughlin did acknowledge that Meghan has had a rough go on the show.
“What happens with Meghan is that because she’s so passionate about what she’s talking about, and she feels very strongly that she’s carrying this mantle for the conservative perspective, and what she wants to talk about is so important to her, I think that’s the part that’s the most draining for her,” McLoughlin continued.
Is Meghan actually leaving?
Since hearing these reports, fans have been wondering if Meghan will actually leave the show or if she will come back next season.
Apparently, she is expected to return as usual.
“The co-hosts and The View have had an incredible season and we expect them all back for an epic year ahead,” a spokesperson for the show recently told Entertainment Tonight.
