‘The View’: Elisabeth Hasselbeck Reacts to Meghan McCain Baby News After She Shaded Her
Meghan McCain from The View had a huge announcement following a week of anxiety over the coronavirus pandemic. The conservative co-host confirmed she was pregnant and in turn, she would be doing the show from her home based on her doctor’s recommendations. One of the many celebrities that congratulated her on the baby news was Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the Republican analyst that she had just shaded on the show.
Why did Meghan McCain shade Elisabeth Hasselbeck?
Hasselbeck is the OG conservative co-host of The View. The latter returned to the show as a guest co-host and talked about how Donald Trump was handling the coronavirus health crisis.
“There can be a fine line between what is taking precaution and what is panic,” she said. “Yes, we’re going to take precautions, we’re going to Purell, pray that God’s got us in our tomorrows, right? We pray that this coronavirus is extinguished, that it’s stopped in its tracks.”
Later on, Hasselbeck said, “I think we should prepare. I think we should pray. I’m not going to let coronavirus rule me!”
When the ladies of The View talked about how Trump changed the way he was talking about the pandemic, McCain had a lot to say. McCain said that she feels she’s “the only conservative in the entire world left on mainstream media.” She sometimes feels getting “tribal” feeling everything is an “attack” on the president or Republicans.
“By the way, we had it happen on this show as well, not with me,” McCain continued. “We had it happen on this show, lest we forget, some Republican saying that we should wash our hands and pray it away. It wasn’t just on Fox News that it was happening, it happened right here on The View.”
McCain was calling out Hasselbeck for suggesting that praying would kill the coronavirus.
Meghan McCain announces she’s pregnant
Over the weekend, McCain broke the news that she was expecting a baby.
“My husband Ben and I have been blessed to find out I’m pregnant,” she wrote in a letter posted on Twitter. “Although this isn’t how I expected to announce my pregnancy, both we and our families are excited to share the news with you all.”
McCain’s doctor suggested she stay home and limit her contact with people. As of Monday, she would be co-hosting from her show in self-isolation.
“I consulted with my doctors and they advised me that for the safety of our baby and myself, I should be extra vigilant about limiting the amount of people we come in contact with,” she added. “Starting immediately, I’ll be joining the millions of Americans who are self-isolating as a precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As a result, I will be appearing on The View from home via satellite.”
Elisabeth Hasselbeck reacts
Although many believed that Hasselbeck would be upset with McCain after she shaded her, the Republican personality wished her well.
“Love this, good news today,” Hasselbeck wrote on Instagram.
Former co-host Abby Huntsman also wrote a comment saying, “You’re gonna rock this. Couldn’t be happier for you and Ben. Love you.”
McCain’s close friend and The View guest co-host, S.E. Cupp, also chimed in writing, “Love you… already so proud of the mommy you’ll be.”
The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. CT/PT.
