Why ‘The View’ Fans Want Meghan McCain Fired After Lashing out at Audience

The View just returned this week for Season 23 and it’s already creating controversy. Meghan McCain is at the center of the storm again for how she handled herself during an interview with Pamela Anderson. After fact-checking the former Baywatch star, an audience member turned on her and the conservative lashed out. Now, fans of the ABC talk show are asking producers to fire John McCain’s daughter.

Meghan McCain-Pamela Anderson showdown

Anderson was a guest on The View where she was grilled about her support for Julian Assange. McCain described the WikiLeaks founder as a cyberterrorist and classified him as a threat to national security.

“You know who put our national security at risk? The military. How many people have the American government killed innocently and how many has Wikileaks?” Anderson pushed back at McCain’s claims.

The audience erupted in applause with one, presumably male member, howling louder than the rest.

That’s when McCain lashed out and said: “Oh calm down sir.”

Fans on Twitter suggest firing Meghan McCain

Fans of The View took to Twitter to express their opinions about the showdown between Anderson and McCain. The views from the public were not in favor of the latter and many think ABC executives should reconsider her place on the Hot Topics table.

“How has she not been fired?” a Twitter user asked.

“This is like the second clip this week where she seems to be pissy with the crowd. She’s somehow becoming more insufferable than before,” another user replied.

“None of us have [the] patience for Meghan McCain. Not watching The View [until] she’s gone,” a fan tweeted.

“Meghan McCain needs to be let go from The View. No one wants to hear her snarky opinions,” a viewer posted.

“Meghan McCain is incapable of disagreeing without being hostile, combative, arrogant, and demeaning,” another fan replied.

“I would probably start watching The View if they could guarantee the guest would consistently shut John McCain’s daughter down every episode and people in the audience would continuously jeer her as she screams for them to shut up,” a viewer commented.

“The disdain that the spoiled Meghan McCain shows to her fellow hosts and the audience should be enough for ABC executives to fire her. She has been riding daddy’s coattails for way too long. FIRE HER,” a fan suggested.

“Meghan McCain has really crossed the line by shouting at an audience member. She clearly forgot who fuels her paycheck…,” a fan commented.

Meghan McCain has considered leaving talk show

McCain has been a polarizing figure during her time on The View due to her conservative nature. Although Abby Huntsman is also a conservative, it’s McCain that is the loudest on the panel. There were rumors that the co-host was doubting her return to the daytime talk show.

“It’s getting to the point where it’s not worth the emotional toll every week,” a friend of McCain told The Daily Beast requesting anonymity. “If she doesn’t stay at The View, she will find other work.”

Hilary Estey McLoughlin, Senior Executive Producer of The View, was quick to shut down speculation and assured the publication that no one wanted McCain to leave.

“We don’t want people to attack Meghan. We’re happy to have Meghan there,” McLoughlin told The Daily Beast. “I think she does want to be there. I think she wants to be on the show. She realizes it’s a very good platform for her and we love having her there. I feel like she will come back.”

Over the summer there was also a rumor that The View co-host, Sunny Hostin, was leaking behind-the-scenes drama, which was also shut down.

A spokesperson for ABC News issued the following statement to Page Six: “As evident on The View, Sunny, an award-winning journalist and former federal prosecutor, never holds back and freely shares any and all opinions she has. She’s been a terrific addition to the table, a fierce and passionate advocate who brings smart and insightful analysis to every debate and discussion on the show. It’s been an incredible season, and we look forward to having her at the co-host table for an epic year ahead.”
