‘The View’ Has Another Blowup as Joy Behar Tells Meghan McCain, ‘You’re Not Gonna Vote!’
After a peaceful day of thoughtful discussion with Stacey Abrams, The View‘s co-hosts got back to sparring on February 18. If you’re keeping score at home, it’s only been one week since Joy Behar walked over Meghan McCain following a discussion about the 2020 election.
While that dust-up came during a conversation about Democratic front-runner Bernie Sanders, the latest blowup surrounded the candidacy of another candidate doing well in polls: Michael Bloomberg. This time, moderator Whoopi Goldberg needed a commercial to calm things down.
The fireworks began with Sunny Hostin and McCain pointing to problematic past statements from Bloomberg. After a while, Behar reached her limit with what she considered bashing of the former NYC mayor — and she called out McCain for trying to drag down every Democratic candidate.
Behar wanted a break from ‘taking Democrats down’ no matter who it is
When you see a fight break out on The View, it usually doesn’t come out of nowhere. Some of the “Hot Topics” discussions don’t end on the air, and it can leave lingering resentment, especially when one of the co-hosts is invested in a candidate (or a particular issue).
In the case of the February 18 show, you can point to McCain’s criticism of Bloomberg as the trigger of the shouting match. However, McCain has been going after every Democratic candidate (excepting Joe Biden) since the start of the primary. And Behar has grown tired of hearing it.
So after McCain brought up valid points about Bloomberg’s past — and said they’re going to come out eventually anyway — Behar couldn’t help but think of all the other “oppo” coming from McCain. “If we keep taking the Democrats down, Trump is going to win,” she said to the panel. “Be careful about that.”
Moments later, McCain said her criticism of Bloomberg had nothing to do with defending Trump. But Behar has seen a lot of attacking by McCain — and not much of it going Trump’s way. “I’d like to know who you’re going to vote for! Who are you voting for?” When McCain said she wouldn’t vote for Trump or Bloomberg, things got even more heated.
Behar said McCain wouldn’t vote if she won’t take Trump or any Democrat
The primary season — well, the entire U.S. election season — is way too long. Voters have already seen too many debates and watched the rise (or fall, or both) of a dozen candidates. And you can see it taking a toll on The View co-hosts live on the air.
As Behar said last week, she’ll vote for anyone squaring off against Trump. (Forget Bernie Sanders; she said she’d pull the lever for “Colonel Sanders” in November 2020.) As for McCain, it seems highly unlikely the conservative co-host would vote for any Democrat.
Behar certainly believes that McCain will sit out this election (at least at the top of the ticket). After all, McCain has said she won’t vote for Trump, and she’s “sure as hell” not picking Bloomberg. Then Behar pointed out McCain said she won’t vote for a Democrat. So then who?
“Who I vote for is none of your business!” By that point, Behar had done the math in her head. If McCain wasn’t going to vote for any declared candidate, “Then you’re not gonna vote!” Behar yelled.
