‘The View’: Joy Behar Reveals the Co-Host Who Gave the Best Holiday Gift Ever
Joy Behar has been with The View since the early days; initially designated as a fill-in for Barbara Walters (when Walters could not attend), Behar brought a needed comedic flair to the table, and she quickly found herself in a full-time co-host position. Thus, when it comes to comparing co-hosts, on any grounds, Behar is easily the most-qualified currently sitting at the table.
From the days when Meredith Viera was the moderator and Star Jones was a co-host to the introduction of Whoopi Goldberg, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Rosie O’Donnell, and more, Behar has shared that iconic table with several other ladies. However, despite the overflowing political contention on-set, she manages to incorporate humor and heart into each episode. Without Behar, The View wouldn’t be the same; though the show runs on divisive conversation, she has managed to last years as one of the fans’ favorites.
While chatting with Rosie O’Donnell and Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, a viewer phoned in to ask Behar a very specific question: “out of all your years on The View, which of your co-hosts has given you the best holiday gift?” Joy Behar smiled and paused – clearly a bit worried that her answer may offend the others — before proceeding with her response.
Joy Behar says Whoopi Goldberg gave the best holiday gift
Joy Behar, coming to the realization that she would have to answer the semi-heated question, responded, “Actually, Whoopi…Well, Whoopi, she was collecting bake-a-light for a while. And she got bored with it, and she gave me all her bake-a-light. That was a great gift.”
For those of you who are not avid bake-a-light collectors, The founder of the company began making lightboxes using the substance bakelite, which was the “very first plastic,” as he notes in his descriptive and biographical video. The material is no longer manufactured, so it is “really a found object” that he uses to make modern-day stained glass windows.
To make a long story short, his creations are quite pricey. The required materials are hard to come by, the artistic creation proves to be quite visually captivating, and scarcity is attractive; expect to pay thousands of dollars each. Now imagine, Goldberg had more than one!
Behar goes on to explain that Barbara Walters once gave her fellow co-hosts a small TV set and Cartier watches. However, Behar notes that Barbara Walters likes to regift, and is someone who “shops in her closet.” Rosie O’ Donnell jokes that “you gotta check the boxes” because “there’s often little cards in there.”
Whoopi Goldberg and Barbara Walters have both given some incredible gifts, dismissing Walters’ tendency to dig through her closest for a prized possession. However, Behar and Donnell failed to note the gifts that they have given their fellow co-hosts in the past. Could Behar be the best gifter in the bunch? Maybe come December, Behar will let us know what she gives, and what she receives. It all remains a mystery until the holidays roll around once more.
