‘The View’: Meghan McCain Calls out Body-Shamers Who Insult Her Horribly
Meghan McCain returned to The View after she took a sick day last week. As the ladies discussed back-handed compliments regarding their appearance, the conservative co-host brought up a personal tidbit. She called out fans that come up to her and say “you look less fat in person.”
“Can people please stop coming up to me on the street and telling me that I look less fat in person? It’s nasty,” she said on the show. “It happens all the time. It’s so mean. I don’t have body image issues.”
Although people seem to mean well with their comments, it does come off rude and insulting. McCain would like for people to be kinder and is thankful those remarks have not made her develop an eating disorder.
“Try to be kinder to people,” she added. “It’s a miracle that I haven’t had some kind of problem with eating up until this point. I have not, I do not, I will not… but it’s like not helpful.”
Joy Behar chimed in and gave her a comeback if she’s ever insulted like that again.
“When they say you look less fat you say, ‘I can’t say the same for you,'” the comedian quipped.
Meghan McCain and fat-shaming
This is not the first time that McCain talks about being body-shamed. Earlier this year the co-hosts talked about Bill Maher’s saying that fat-shaming should return because “being fat isn’t a birth defect.” He cited that the reason obesity levels in the U.S. are climbing up is due to “Americans eat[ing] sh**, and too much of it.”
McCain recalled the time that Fox News host Laura Ingraham took a dig at her.
“I was really hoping that I was going to get that role in the Real World, but then I realized that, well, they don’t like plus-sized models,” Ingraham said in a stereotypical valley girl accent. “They only like the women who look a certain way.”
On The View, McCain thanked Ingraham for shaming her.
“I want to say if I weren’t fat-shamed, I wouldn’t have a career,” McCain said. “Laura Ingraham said I was too plus-sized to be on TV. Shout out Laura: I’m on The View and you’re not!”
Meghan McCain opens up about miscarriage
McCain recently opened up about the miscarriage she suffered earlier this year. The process was not easy for the Republican to overcome and she explained how she dealt with it.
“I’ve always been agnostic about having kids,” she said on Good Morning America. “I don’t feel naturally maternal. I don’t feel this natural draw to motherhood. And I think my response and how sad I felt afterward surprised me.”
It was in July of this year that McCain was pregnant with her daughter but suffered the miscarriage. The television personality described the situation as a “horrendous experience.”
“Nobody talks about this kind of stuff,” Meghan told GMA. “The only experience I’ve ever had on TV when women are pregnant is streamers and excitement, which is wonderful and amazing, but I just think there’s a lot of other women out there who have my experience and you are not alone.”
McCain fans can catch the conservative give her opinions on the latest hot topics every morning on The View at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT/CT.
