‘The View’: Meghan McCain Lashes out at Live Audience After ‘Cheap Applause’ for Sunny Hostin

Meghan McCain completely lost it on The View last week and lashed out at the audience. It’s not rare for the co-hosts to create controversy on the ABC talk show, but it is unusual for them to call put the live studio audience. The conservative pundit was not happy that Sunny Hostin got applauses after her opinion and let the public know her discontent.

The “Hot Topics” table was extra heated last Friday when the ladies debated about the public impeachment hearings. When Hostin weighed in on the issue she said the Republican Party “has enabled this president.” The former prosecutor also took a jab at Republican congressman Will Hurd who says that it’s not clear to him that Donald Trump didn’t do something impeachable.

“It’s about the fact that he heard evidence clear and simple and for him to sit there and say that he — the evidence has to be overwhelming and that he heard no overwhelming evidence, I want to know which hearings he was sitting at,” Hostin said to cheers from the audience.

McCain got extremely upset at the audience clapping for Hostin and called them out.

“It’s easy to get a cheap applause line here,” McCain said. “It just is, and that’s fine. Take your cheap applause line.”

As Hostin tried to defend the audience, McCain yelled over her, “Let me speak!” with the former firing back saying, “You have been speaking a lot.”

Meghan McCain can’t stand the booing

It’s not the first time McCain talks back to the audience, in fact, it’s something that is hard for her to deal with. In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she explained that “getting booed” is difficult for her.

“This is a very hard job,” McCain says. “I think because you and I are so emotionally invested in the topics, I get very upset or happy. It’s like, lots of intense emotions on this show and part of it is the political climate we’re in and part of it’s just the nature of the show, getting booed is very hard.”

“I’m still not used to it,” she added. “I don’t like when the audience does that.”

Do Joy Behar and Meghan McCain hate each other?

Another constant rumor around the cast of The View is the infighting backstage. There is gossip that the co-hosts don’t actually get along, like Joy Behar and McCain. During that same interview, they both debunked all the hearsay around their relationship.

“It really hurts my feelings!” McCain told ET about the news she doesn’t like Behar. “It genuinely hurts my feelings because our dressing rooms are next door to each other and you and I have the same emotional reaction to things — sometimes in different ways — but we’re both upset equally, the equal amount of the same things. And I wish people would give us a break, for real.”

In addition, McCain also said she hates being on the talk show without Behar as she likes debating her.

“I don’t know what my takeaway is but when you’re not here, I hate the show,” McCain said. “I really have a hard time. As everyone knows, I have a really hard time when I can’t fight with you, I really enjoy it. I really enjoy being friends with you. You’re really funny, you always make me laugh on the show. I’m really, sincerely very grateful that you’re on the show with me and you have all the answers.”

The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. CT/PT.
