‘The View’ Got New Mugs and Meghan McCain Thinks a Co-Host Is Getting Fired
The View is stronger than ever with season 23 as politics heats up with the presidential elections next year. Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Abby Huntsman, and Meghan McCain are the co-hosts of the ABC talk show. For the month-old season, the mugs returned with the faces of the current presenters which made McCain think someone was getting fired.
Why Meghan McCain is worried.
After the opening credits for The View, the ladies walked out to see their new mugs on the “Hot Topics” table. On the mug, you can see cartoon versions of the co-hosts. Goldberg is seen getting into a cab that Hostin and Huntsman are riding. McCain was drawn holding a cactus and Behar is carrying her puppy, Bernie.
“I just saw that there’s a new mug making its debut on the show today,” Goldberg said after greeting the audience.
“I am very superstitious about these mugs as I told you Brian [the producer],” McCain interjected.
When Behar asked why McCain added: “Every time you put people’s faces on a mug somebody gets fired.”
The producer makes a point in noting that Goldberg and Behar have been on “many, many mugs” and are still on the show.
“I haven’t and Abby hasn’t,” McCain yelled out.
To appease the situation, Behar said, “they waited a long time for these, so I’m assuming they feel good about all of us.”
The last time The View had mugs was back at the beginning of season 21. A short time after introducing them, Jedediah Bila announced she was leaving the talk show. It was McCain that later took Bila’s seat as the conservative voice and the most likely instance she is referring to.
Meghan McCain constantly fears being fired.
Getting fired from The View seems to be on McCain’s mind constantly. The conservative co-host often gets passionate about the political topics that are discussed. It is her spunky attitude that may be what gets her into trouble and McCain is conscious about that.
“I go in assuming I’m going to be fired every day,” McCain said during her appearance on Watch What Happens Live. “Every single day. Yes, every day.”
When the WWHL host, Andy Cohen, asked McCain if she was ever close to getting the boot she elaborated on why she feels that way.
“It’s more the tone we are [at] culturally, people get canceled so easily,” she explained. “And by the way, Joy has this same thing, because we are the most honest and raw. And we’re always going to say something that is going to be too far one way. So I say it sort of jokingly, but sort of not.”
Meghan McCain walked off the set.
Another reason McCain might feel she’s on the verge of getting fired is because of incidents like when she walked off the set. During a spar with Ana Navarro, McCain was seen getting off her chair and walking backstage.
“I just want to say the walking off footage, we are told by producers to leave the table if it’s too heated and I get touched up backstage with my makeup so that’s what I was doing and I’ve done that like many times over the years so I don’t know why this particular time…,” she explained on Watch What Happens Live.
During the same interview, McCain also talked about why she often calls out the in-studio audience.
“I will say the audience is extremely combative and it’s nice to be with a positive audience,” she expressed. “The booing and the heckling is a lot every day. And I’m paid here at The View to be a different view and I would like us all when people come to roll it back cause again, I’m just trying to do a very competent job.”
As the loudest conservative voice on the table, McCain gives The View balance. She loves politics and is informed about everything going on in Capitol Hill. McCain might be a polarizing figure but she is needed for the ABC daytime talk show to work. The View airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET and 10 a.m. PT/CT.
