Fans often see Shelton cracking jokes at other people’s expense on the show. That isn’t the case when he is helping out contestants.

“I like the fact that, Blake he’s just a jokester,” season 16 contestant, Gyth Rigdon told Access. “He’s a funny guy, outgoing. But when the first strum on the guitar kicks off it’s business. Let’s get to work, let’s figure out what we need to do and not do.”

Kim Cherry from the same season shared the good advice he gave them. “Stay true to what we are. There’s a lot of country,” she said. “He really, really stresses don’t worry about what anybody else says. Do what you do best.”

Mentors for season 17 have been revealed

Every season celebrities are brought on The Voice to help advise a team. This season’s lineup includes some big names.

Normani will be advising Kelly Clarkson’s team. The former member of Fifth Harmony is currently getting a lot of attention for her new single, “Motivation.”

Gwen Stefani is also working with a hit maker with will.i.am. That will most likely get contestants interested in pop music excited.

John Legend’s mentor is Usher, and the duo are powerful in the R&B genre. Of course, Shelton already has the country music genre on lock and has had some impressive advisors in the past with Reba McEntire, Sheryl Crowe, Cher, Brad Paisley, and more. Who will be helping his team this season?

Darius Rucker is the mentor for Team Blake

Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish will be helping Team Blake this season. He revealed that he is a fan of the show and Shelton.

“First of all, he’s so funny and the thing that really makes him a great coach is he’s so genuine. Blake is never BS, ever,” Rucker told Entertainment Tonight. “He’s honest and like I’ve told him, me and my family watch the show religiously. We watch it all the time and, you know, Blake is always honest with them and he’s always got something cool to say.”

Shelton had a funny compliment for the lead singer. “Darius Rucker is the perfect choice for, I would say, anything in my life. I mean, I have been drinking,” he said.

The country singer did get a little more serious when talking about Rucker. “I made a joke earlier to one of the artists on the show, I go, ‘You know Darius literally has proven that if he decides whatever it is he wants to do in life, he conquers it.”

Soon fans will see how the two singers will work together when talking to contestants. The new season premieres on Sept. 23 on NBC at 8/7 CDT.
