‘The Voice’ Alum, Jordan Pruitt Claims Former Manager Sexually Abused Her in Lawsuit
Singer Jordan Pruitt got her start in music through Disney when she was young. She later competed on The Voice.
Now she is opening up about her past and filed a lawsuit claiming her former manager sexually abused her. This is what she is claiming and more about how she wants to help survivors of abuse.
Jordan Pruitt was on season 3 of The Voice
Jordan Pruitt impressed coach Christina Aguilera by singing “The One That Got Away” for her blind audition. Aguilera was the only one to turn around and so she joined her team.
She had to go up against Adriana Louise during the battle rounds. Sadly, Louise won and Pruitt was eliminated.
Pruitt had a few breakthroughs in her career before The Voice. She had a single that was used in a Disney Channel TV movie, Read It and Weep in 2006. She released her first album the following year. Pruitt toured with the Cheetah Girls, Demi Lovato, and more. Her lawsuit relates to this period of her career.
She sued her former manager and claimed he sexually abused her
Pruitt filed a lawsuit against Hollywood Records and Walt Disney Co. for allegedly failing to protect her from her former manager, Keith Thomas, according to Variety. She is claiming that he started sexually abusing her when she was 14 years old until a week before her 16th birthday. Thomas’ company, Levosia Entertainment is also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.
“Unfortunately, these large companies are primarily concerned with sales, money and charts,” Pruitt said in a statement. “Too often they fall short of protecting the young talent that they are ‘supposed’ to be caretakers for. Time and time again we see people in positions of power fail us. I couldn’t be more disappointed in how Disney treats their underage talent like cash cows.”
The former reality show contestant also tweeted about her lawsuit. She tweeted, “3 weeks ago as “Jane Doe” I filed a lawsuit against my molester and those who enabled him. No more Jane Doe. I am Jordan Pruitt. #justice #metoo #SeeSomethingSaySomething.”
She also reportedly wrote about Thomas allegedly grooming her in a Facebook post. “At fifteen this person had brainwashed me into thinking that the things that were happening were ‘natural’ and ‘okay,'” she wrote according to USA Today. “While I will spare you any of the mind-piercing details, I can honestly and unfortunately say that this man sexually abused me for almost two years of my life. I am a victim of child molestation because of him.”
Thomas is a Nashville producer who has worked with Amy Grant and BeBe and CeCe. He has also worked with other female singers who are teenagers. Thomas hasn’t responded to Pruitt’s allegations.
She is reportedly writing a book called AA:Abused Anonymous
Pruitt is reportedly writing a book for survivors of abuse called AA:Abused Anonymous. She tweeted about it when a fan asked her if she is working on any projects.
“I am currently writing my first book. It’s been a labor of love. I am also ‘possibly’ releasing a new song soon, just for fun,” the country singer tweeted.
