Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have been on The Voice since it first started in 2011. Over the years Shelton and Levine have become closer, leading fans to love their friendship. They also have taken home huge paychecks for being fan favorites.
But television shows don’t last forever, even when they’re huge hits. Will the duo stay on the show until it ends? Or are they already planning their big exit? Well, it’s possible that they will bow out before the show is over. Here are 10 things we know about Blake Shelton and Adam Levine possibly quitting the show.
1. Levine says it’s “inevitable” that he’ll be done coaching
The Voice veteran has won three times on the show with Javier Colon, Tessanne Chin, and Jordan Smith. He has given some great advice to aspiring and working artists, and has also given his fellow coaches a tough time.
Although it seems like he’s still enjoying himself, he knows it’s inevitable that he’ll be done coaching eventually. “Inevitably, when that day [when I quit] comes — unless I’m on the show until it’s done, who knows? — I would entrust my position with very few people,” he told Yahoo!
It’s great that the singer is protective over his position, but that doesn’t mean he won’t walk away. Levine has also expressed who he would like to replace him if that time comes, while sources behind the scenes claim that the singer has been unhappy lately.
2. He reportedly started being unhappy on The Voice in Season 11
Things weren’t exactly smooth sailing in Season 11 of the show. Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys were just starting out as coaches and the switch up reportedly really bothered Levine. “Adam really cannot stand Miley because he thinks that she is the most obnoxious person ever,” a source told Radar Online.
3. Miley Cyrus’ return could mean that Levine walks
It’s already been announced that Cyrus will be back for Season 13. This news reportedly made Levine think about calling it quits. “Adam does not really want to return if they bring Miley back,” explained a source to Radar Online. “He is that over it.”
4. An insider claims both Levine and Shelton are ready to move on
Shelton might not have had a problem with Cyrus, but he reportedly is also ready to quit the show. “Both Adam and Blake feel that they have run their course as judges and are highly considering both exiting at the same time, along with Gwen,” a source told Radar Online.
5. Levine would pick Bruno Mars or Justin Timberlake as his replacement
The show has had many impressive celebrities come and go over the years. But none of them replaced Levine or Shelton. It would probably be a tough task to get replacements for these two coaches.
Adam knows this, so he already named what stars he would want to fill his spot. “Maybe I’d let Bruno Mars in the door,” he said according to Yahoo! “We’ll see how many kids Justin Timberlake has, if he can handle another job. Maybe Justin can do it. And yeah, that’s pretty much it.”
6. Shelton was reportedly unhappy that Stefani wasn’t on the show
The couple met and fell in love while working on the show, so it only makes sense that Shelton would have missed Stefani while she was away in Season 11. Things got so bad that it reportedly affected his performance.
“Blake was not the same this season without Gwen there and it showed,” a source revealed, according to the Inquisitr. “When Gwen was a judge last season he was a ball of light and this season that light went out.”
7. Shelton supposedly threatened to quit if Stefani didn’t return
Blake was reportedly so unhappy that he talked to the producers about it. “Blake made it clear to the producers that he wanted Gwen by his side for the upcoming season,” a source told the Inquisitr “if [Stefani] did not return then neither would he.”
8. Shelton might want to focus more on his music
Even though the country singer managed to get his girlfriend back on the show, it may not be enough to keep him on The Voice. He has put out new music over the years, but he reportedly wants to focus more on it than he has in the past.
“He is saying that he loves The Voice because it brought him to Gwen, but that he ultimately wants to focus more on his career and give other artists the opportunity that he has had,” an insider explained to Radar Online.
9. Shelton wants David Lee Roth to replace him
Levine isn’t the only one who has come up with options for his own replacement. However, Shelton might have harder shoes to fill given he has been a solid go-to for artists who want to break into country music. He made the surprising decision to pick a rock icon as his replacement.
“We need somebody that’s going to come in swinging,” explained Blake to Yahoo! “So I’m gonna say, David Lee Roth! I want to see that! Come on! Let’s get Dave in here!”
10. Money is probably a big reason why the two have stayed around
Shelton and Levine might have gotten what they wanted at least temporarily, with Cyrus gone and Stefani back. But another reason why they’ve probably stayed is because of money.
Shelton and Stefani reportedly got an extra bonus in order to be more open about their relationship in Season 12. Levine has also consistently been one of the highest paid coaches on the show.
