‘The Voice’: Did Adam Levine Surprisingly Quit the Show and Who Is Replacing Him for Season 17?
There have been rumors for some time that Adam Levine might officially be done with The Voice. After having a hard time competing there has been a surprising announcement. Did Levine quit and who is replacing him for Season 17? Here is everything you need to know.
Adam Levine had a couple of rough seasons lately
The show and fans haven’t been kind to Levine the last two seasons. That’s because of a controversial move he made in Season 15.
Levine made a shocking plea when his team members DeAndre Nico and Reagan Strange were up for elimination the week before the finale. Strange was too sick to perform but Nico did. Levine still begged voters to vote for Strange.
He said that he wanted “an unbelievably talented little girl right now who is not able to fight for her position on this show.” Fans were angry he publicly went against Nico, who was eliminated. Strange also got eliminated before the finale so Levine didn’t have any contestants in the finale.
Season 16 wasn’t much better. That’s because all of Levine’s contestants were knocked out before the finale after a shocking twist. It’s tough to say whether the twist was what did him in or if it was the fans who were still angry about his move last season.
Carson Daly announced that Levine is leaving The Voice
The host revealed on the Today show that Adam Levine will be leaving The Voice after 16 seasons. He claimed that it was Levine’s decision to leave.
He said Levine will “always be cherished member of The Voice family, and of course, we wish him nothing but the best,” according to E! News. This news might be surprising given it was previously reported that the coaches will be the same next season due to the show’s previous tweet.
The tweet had a picture of Levine, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend with the words “back for more” on it. The caption reads, “A group of Coaches so good we need an encore. This iconic squad is returning to #TheVoice next season.”
It’s unknown if what happened between the tweet and the announcement. Daly also announced who will be replacing Levine.
Gwen Stefani will be returning as a coach
The pop star first coached on The Voice in Season 7. That’s when Gwen Stefani started dating Blake Shelton behind the scenes. She then returned for Season 9 and 12.
Now she will be taking Levine’s seat next season. Fans have been hoping she would return so many will be happy about the news. She hasn’t won yet so this might be her chance.
After Season 12, Stefani did leave the door open for a possible return in the future. “I don’t have any plans to come back,” she said according to Entertainment Tonight. “I love being here, I’d love to come back. We’ll see what happens next.”
She also praised Levine’s coaching at the time. “[Adam] is such an incredible coach. One thing I learned for [him] and I have to get better at … he fights for his team,” she said. “He’ll be able to … show whatever greatness his team member has.”
Levine won three seasons throughout his long run on the show. His last tweet is a picture of him sitting on Shelton’s lap on the set of The Voice.
