‘The Voice’: Did Blake Shelton Secretly Plot to Get Rid Of Adam Levine So Girlfriend Gwen Stefani Could Join?

Fans of The Voice were surprised to hear Adam Levine was leaving the show. As one of the only coaches who has appeared on every single episode since Season 1 (the other being Blake Shelton), it seemed strange to think about the show without him there.

But Levine is really leaving for Season 17 and his replacement will be none other than Blake Shelton’s long-term girlfriend, Gwen Stefani. This weirdly convenient replacement has fans wondering if Shelton secretly masterminded the swap himself.

Is it all one big conspiracy? Some people think so.

Blake Shelton and Adam Levine are friendly rivals

Though Shelton and Levine embark on plenty of debates on screen, they’re actually close friends who have nothing but love and respect for each other.

In his farewell Instagram post, Levine laid his feelings bare for the 42-year-old country star: “And, BLAKE F*CKIN’ SHELTON. I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried. Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it. Our friendship is and always will be one for the books. Whatever this whole surreal experience was, Im just happy I got to experience it with you. You’re my brother for life,” he said.

With all these deep feelings of brotherly love, it seems strange to think that Shelton would hurt his friend in favor of his girlfriend.

Supposedly, Shelton and Levine don’t agree on Gwen Stefani

The rumor came from the gossip publication Globe, which asserted that Blake and Shelton had frequent arguments behind the scenes. Especially about Gwen Stefani.

The article said Shelton thought it was “unprofessional to have one’s girlfriend on the judges’ panel, but Blake chalked it up to jealousy.” They also claimed that Shelton and Levine were having petty fights all the time, including, “bickering constantly over lighting, camera angles, who has the best album, you name it.”

The gossip was deemed ‘total nonsense’

Is there a chance that Blake Shelton masterminded Adam Levine’s departure on purpose? Of course, it’s possible, but it seems unlikely.

The fact-checkers at Gossip Cop deemed the Globe story “ridiculous and untrue.” A source who works with both coaches promised it was all “total nonsense.”

About 8 years ago, Mark Burnett convinced us to sign up for this show where you sit in a big red chair with your back turned away from the singers on the stage. First thank you must go to Mark. ❤️ We had no idea what we were doing or where it was going. After the first day of shooting, I sat there, stunned. I said to myself “theres some magic here. Something is definitely happening.” It went on to be a life shaping experience that will be close to my heart forever. Thank you NBC for signing me up. I am truly honored to have been a part of something I’ll always cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you to every single coach I ever sat in those chairs with. That is shared experience that is singularly ours. We have that for life. Thank you to everyone who supported this long strange and amazing left turn into a place I never thought I’d go. Thank you Carson Daly for babysitting the musicians and making sure our shoes were tied and we had our lunch boxes. You are the backbone of this thing and we appreciate you more than you know. Audrey, thank you for being perhaps the most patient person in all the free world. 4 musicians all at once is a lot. Sainthood is imminent. Thank you to Paul Mirkovich and the band for their ridiculously hard work and learning more songs than maybe any band ever. Thank you to the people behind the scenes who do the real work and make this machine hum. To the amazingly talented vocalists who competed on the show and blew my mind on a daily basis. And, BLAKE FUCKIN’ SHELTON. I couldn’t hide my love for you if I tried. Seriously. I tried. Can’t do it. Our friendship is and always will be one for the books. Whatever this whole surreal experience was, Im just happy I got to experience it with you. You’re my brother for life. Kelly and John, take care of the cowboy and I’m sure I’ll be back to say hi very very soon. So much love to you both. And lastly, to all of the loyal voice fans, there’s literally no show without you guys. For me, it was time to move on. Your support has meant EVERYTHING. And Lastly, I’d like to thank my manager Jordan for convincing me to take that meeting. What an amazing ride. Thank you all so much. ❤️ Adam

It’s true that Blake Shelton and Adam Levine had disagreements, but they saw them as growth opportunities, not real fights.

“We are constantly at each other’s throats, and sometimes we really do get mad at each other,” Shelton said in an interview. “We’re those two guys you knew in high school where we have this bond that is unexplainable. It brings out the best and worst in both of us.”

Levine was already leaving and there’s no ‘bad blood’

Some more proof that Shelton didn’t plan the coup? Reports say Levine has been planning to go for a while now.

“[Leaving the show] is something he’s been talking to [host] Carson [Daly] and the other coaches about for some time,” a source told People. “It’s just time for him to leave.”

The source explained that there’s no “bad blood” between Levine and any of the other coaches—including Gwen Stefani. “It’s bittersweet for everyone, but Adam is so excited that Gwen is going to take his chair,” the source explained.

It sounds like next season will be highly interesting. We can’t wait to see what happens next!
