This season ended with all four teams still in the running to win the season. Ricky Duran from Team Blake Shelton, Rose Short from Team Gwen Stefani, Jake Hoot from Team Kelly Clarkson, and Katie Kadan from Team John Legend were in the finals.

All of the coaches except for Stefani have previously won on the show. This season Clarkson managed to coach another singer to winning the competition. Hoot came in first place meaning he’ll get a record deal with Universal Music Group and $100,000.

The country singer is from Tennessee and he impressed the audience by performing an original song, “Better Off Without You” in the first part of the finals. He said it was inspired by his divorce.

Hoot talked about his mentality throughout the competition. He revealed that he didn’t think he would make it this far.

“From the get-go, for a little bit, I didn’t think it was real. Every step of the way, I’m like, ‘Alright honey, I’ll be home next week’ or ‘I’ll be home after battles’ or ‘I’ll be home after knockouts.’ I continued to doubt myself and Kelly continued to encourage me,” Hoot said according to People. He said he “didn’t think it was real” when it came to his progress in the competition.

He revealed how that moment felt when it was announced that he won. “I think I went out of breath. I lost all my breath when they announced my name,” Hoot said.

Fans are angry Katie Kadan placed third

How did the other singers place in the competition? Short was in fourth place, Kadan was third, and Duran was second.

Kadan has been a soulful singer throughout the competition. She blew the judges away in her blind audition with her performance of Aretha Franklin’s “Baby I Love You.” The Chicago singer said she has only been performing for eight years and was previously afraid to perform. Three coaches turned because Shelton used his block button on Clarkson.

The impressive singer wasn’t ever at risk of going home this season given she has one of the most powerful voices. So fans are shocked she placed third in the finale.

“WHAT? This whole thing is a sham. I’ve never been furious at a #TheVoice result before. But the fact that KATIE F*CKING KADAN didn’t win this show, and didn’t even come in 2nd, but came in third, is a disgrace! I’m actually livid right now! #VoiceFinale,” one fan tweeted.

Another fan tweeted, “The crowd booing at Katie Kadan coming in 3rd is all that needs to be said. #VoiceFinale.”

Kadan hasn’t tweeted her own reaction to the results yet. However, she previously tweeted some kind words to fans for helping her get to the final.
