‘The Voice’: Gwen Stefani Taunts Blake Shelton With the Sweetest Nickname
We found out this Spring that Gwen Stefani was heading back to be a coach on the popular singing show The Voice, and we’ve been excited ever since. Not only is the superstar a serious talent, but she’s got plenty of sass up her sleeve to dole out to boyfriend, Blake Shelton which should make for a very entertaining season.
Gwen returns to ‘The Voice’ ready to take on Blake
Gwen is stepping in to replace long-time coach, Adam Levine, who revealed in May he was leaving the show after 16 seasons. Gwen has coached before in seasons 7, 9, and 12, but this time she’s bringing with her the drama surrounding her ongoing relationship with Blake Shelton.
Stefani said she and Shelton have already been talking about their strategies for winning the show. They’ve started to “have pillow talk and we’re discussing (the strategy),” she explains. “He’s like, ‘It’s still gotta be competition,’ and I was like, ‘You got it.'”
Stefani is bringing the competition
Gwen is not shy about her desire to have the winning team this season, and she’s been sure to let Blake Shelton know that despite their relationship, she intends to aim for success. In a recent teaser trailer promoting the September premiere of this season’s The Voice, Gwen can be seen blocking her boyfriend from participating and dancing in celebration.
Gwen Stefani ups the ante with a sweet pet name
In the same preview, Gwen can be seen enticing singers to her team with sparkling “team swag” as she holds up a jacket bejeweled with her name. During the clip, Gwen also taunts her sweetie by calling him “Blakey” in front of all the other coaches. Although this isn’t the first time she has publicly referred to Blake by this cute nickname, in this instance she’s definitely poking fun at him in order to get a reaction.
The other coaches are excited for the contest
John Legend admits he’s excited to see how Blake and Gwen increase the competition on the show. He mentions that he can’t wait to see them fight it out. John Legend announced, “I’m very excited to see America’s favorite couple fight it out.” Legend isn’t the only one who seems thrilled with the newest added drama. Kelly Clarkson joined in on the teasing by telling Blake he likely wouldn’t be getting any cuddles from his girlfriend with his competitive behavior.
No more bromance, we’ve got romance
This season, fans will tune in for a new kind of friendship. Instead of the long-lasting bromance between Adam Levine and Blake, we will get an insider’s look at the real romance between Gwen and Blake. The pair have been together since 2015 and are ready to tackle competing against each other in the Voice chairs again. Fans will remember that Gwen previously met Shelton while coaching on the show and they eventually fell in love.
A source told People how the lovebirds have been doing, being back on the set where they first fell in love.
“They’re coming up on their four-year anniversary, but Blake and Gwen still act like lovebirds,” the source said.
Although, Shelton laments to People that he’s afraid he’s going to have trouble winning without hurting her feelings.
“I’m glad that she’s already feeling competitive. Of course, I’m not going to let her win. I’m going to have to win, but I’m going to have to do it in a way that she doesn’t feel like I beat her,” Shelton explained.
We’ll see how their relationship handles the pressure when The Voice returns Monday, September 23 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
