‘The Voice’: Gwen Stefani Tells Blake Shelton That This Contestant Is ‘Our Little Girl’
Stefani has been very vocal about wanting to work with a young girl this season. She unexpectedly got her wish. Find out which contestant that is and how she told Shelton the singer is “our little girl.”
Gwen Stefani previously compared 2 contestants to her relationship with Blake Shelton
Stefani and Shelton have been busy mentoring contestants this season of The Voice. Sometimes their relationship comes up during their practice sessions.
That was the case when Stefani paired Royce Lovett and Kiara Brown for The Battles. She noted how different they were from each other with Brown being “super clean” and Lovett being “dirty nasty.”
“It’s like me and Blake,” she said. “We do not seem like we would go together, but we fit together perfectly.” Shelton seems to agree given his recent comments.
“If you thought the People magazine cover was shocking, mine and Gwen’s relationship is probably the biggest head-scratcher,” he joked while on Martina McBride’s podcast, Vocal Point according to People.
Stefani called Joana Martinez their little girl
Joana Martinez was previously on Shelton’s team. He cut ties with her in the Knockouts and Stefani decided to steal her. She talked about why she was excited to work with Martinez.
“Every time I come on this show I am aching to work with a young girl,” Stefani said on the show. “Joana is my talented 15 year old that I stole from Blake. The technical side of her voice is crazy. Everybody needs to watch out for her in the live shows.”
Martinez performed “You Can’t Stop the Girl” during the live playoffs. Shelton had something to say about her performance.
“I knew this was gonna’ happen and I’m happy for you,” he told the teenager. “I’m happy that you make me regret ever letting you go. I’ve done some stupid things in my life. That might be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done.”
When it was Stefani’s turn to talk she said, “Blake, that’s our little girl! That’s our little girl!” She went on to tell Martinez that she’s happy they picked that song for her to show how “spectacular” she is as a singer.
She said Shelton is a good dad
Shelton spends a lot of time with Stefani’s three sons Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. Their father is her ex-husband, Gavin Rossdale but it seems like Shelton has become part of their family.
“He is a good dad, actually,” Stefani said on the Today show. “He’s been helping me out a lot, so I literally get to the point where I’m like, ‘You gotta get home, I need help.’ It’s hard. I got three boys.”
It sounds like Martinez is in good hands with Stefani being her coach. Fans will have to wait and see how far she’ll make it this season.
