‘The Voice’: How Blake Shelton and Adam Levine Really Feel About the Other Celebrity Coaches, Revealed

We already know how Blake Shelton and Adam Levine feel about each other. The Voice coaches may constantly be at each other’s throats, but underneath it all, they have a bond that’s impossible to break.

However, how do Shelton and Levine really feel about the other Voice coaches who have come and gone? Here’s what the two have had to say about every coach, from Jennifer Hudson (page 5) to Christina Aguilera (page 7).

1. CeeLo Green

CeeLo Green was one of the original coaches on The Voice, and Shelton was sad to see him go. “I campaigned a lot with Cee Lo to stay,” Shelton claimed. “I knew what the network was doing with changing coaches in and out, but I figured … I don’t know, in the back of my mind, I guess I hoped Cee Lo would be back.”

He also praised, “He’s got so much going on in his mind and so much creativity that a lifetime is probably not enough to explore everything he wants to try to do.”

Next: Levine already knew he could handle being a coach.

2. Usher

While Usher was among one of the first “replacement” coaches after The Voice had already taken off, Levine was confident that he’d be able to handle it with ease. After all, he and Usher already had some history before the show.

Levine told TV Guide, “I knew Usher. We’ve worked in the studio a couple of times together.”

Next: He called her ‘sweet and adorable and hilarious.’

3. Shakira

Shakira joined the panel of coaches at the same time as Usher, and Levine had a similar sentiment toward her. “Usher and Shakira are coming into [The Voice] as a big frickin’ institution,” Levine told TV Guide. “So it’s different, but it still feels good, because they’re legitimate artists.”

He also said of Shakira, “[She] is a new friend, but I love her dearly already. She’s so sweet and adorable and hilarious.”

Next: We definitely know how Shelton feels about her.

4. Gwen Stefani

Considering Shelton is dating Gwen Stefani, we’re pretty sure we know how he feels about her. However, we can’t get over the way he gushed about her in 2014 — before they were even a couple.

“Gwen’s quickly becoming one of my favorite people that I’ve had the chance to work with on the show,” he said. “I think she is the most normal person I have ever met in Hollywood.”

Levine may not be romantically involved with Stefani, but he still thinks she’s “the greatest.” He joked, “I still tell [Shelton], ‘I can’t believe you get to be with Gwen Stefani’ … It’s just not f***ing right!”

Next: They butted heads on the show.

5. Jennifer Hudson

Shelton definitely butted heads with Jennifer Hudson throughout her time on the show. When she was first introduced as a new coach, The Voice took a Desperate Housewives approach to tease fans about the feuding they’d engage in throughout the season.

Shelton often made sure to point out that Hudson was the newbie on the show, even suggesting, “I still think she has a little bit of humbling ahead of her.”

Levine, on the other hand, thought Hudson’s rookie status was a benefit to the show. “Jennifer is awesome, like, there’s brand new energy, she’s never done it before.” He even pointed out that he was “super jealous” of her, because “she’s the only coach on The Voice that has an Oscar.”

Next: He couldn’t stop praising this coach.

6. Pharrell

Shelton refused to help Pharrell when he joined the show, claiming, “When I started on this show, nobody helped me!” However, that didn’t stop him from praising the new coach. “I had met Pharrell before, but I didn’t realize he’s one of the most intelligent human beings I’ve ever been around, and such a big heart,” he raved.

“He’s just the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet. I’ve really enjoyed sitting next to him and talking to him.”

7. Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera was one of the four original coaches on The Voice, but in May 2018, she had some negative things to say. She claimed, “It became something that I didn’t feel was what I had signed up for in season one. You realize it’s not about music. It’s about making good TV moments and massaging a story.”

While we may never see her as a coach again, back when she was on the show, she was definitely well-respected. Levine once claimed he was “worried” about Aguilera’s team beating his, but that “this girl deserves it.” If even Levine was willing to accept defeat against another coach, you know he thought highly of her.

Next: She obviously came out on top.

8. Alicia Keys

When Alicia Keys snapped back at Levine for making a comment about her makeup, it only made him love her even more. While Keys often rocks her natural beauty without makeup, Levine once teased her when she decided to put some on. “I joke around with her. She’s, by the way, so great,” Levine said on The Howard Stern Show.

“She was putting on a little bit of makeup, and I was like, ‘Oh, I thought Alicia doesn’t wear makeup.’ And she’s like, ‘I do what the f*ck I want.’ And I’m like, ‘I love you so much.’”

Next: Not everyone loved her — but Shelton did.

9. Miley Cyrus

Not everyone loved Miley Cyrus as a coach, but Shelton certainly did. In an interview with Access Hollywood, he explained why The Voice “needed” her.

“I think she’ll probably work hard at this because she’s definitely someone who thinks, obviously, thinks outside the box and so I know she’s going to bring her own elements, as far as mentoring, into the show … I think The Voice needs it, I think we need her,” he argued.

Next: They both couldn’t wait to work with her.

10. Kelly Clarkson

As the newest addition to The Voice, Shelton and Levine couldn’t rave about Kelly Clarkson enough. “She’s amazing,” Levine said. “I love working with her. I always thought she would be great for the show.”

Even Shelton couldn’t hide how excited he was to work with her. “This is one of the greatest vocalists … the greatest people I have ever met.” Shelton added, “And Kelly has absolutely no experience on this show whatsoever.”
