The Voice fans know by now that Blake Shelton and Adam Levine could really derail things as they pick on each other. So it would be helpful for someone to play referee and Legend said he has experience with that.

Everyone knows, Adam and Blake, they fight like brothers, they love like brothers,” the singer said according to E! News. “And it’s interesting being between those two, for me and [Kelly Clarkson], because we don’t have as much animosity toward each other.”

He said that he has brothers and knows how to play referee between two who are fighting. “I’m starting to learn the dynamics around here,” continued the new coach. “And just trying to get in where I fit in.”

Shelton said that he won’t help Legend

The country singer is the coach with the most wins under his belt on The Voice. But he doesn’t plan on taking it easy on the newcomer.

I’m not here to help John Legend, I’m here to beat John!” Shelton told Entertainment Tonight. “I could give a crap about helping him,” he said. ”
I don’t care about giving you advice, John. They pay me to win!”

Of course, Shelton isn’t the only one Legend has to worry about. Kelly Clarkson won twice, Adam Levine won three times. There is one thing working in Legend’s favor and that’s his experience of being on the show before. He mentioned that in his announcement of joining as a coach.

“I’m thrilled to join the coaches of ‘The Voice,” he said according to Variety. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.”

Khalid will be his battle advisor

The battle advisors for the season has been announced and it looks like Khalid will be the one advising for Team John Legend. The EGOT winner revealed how the two teamed up.

Khalid was the first person I asked to be my mentor,” Legend told Access Hollywood. “I wanted somebody that all the singers would look up to and be excited to meet. I wanted somebody whose music that I personally love and respected and somebody whose personality I just thought would mesh well with mine.”

Legend went young picking the 21-year-old singer as his advisor. But he seems honored to be chosen. “It’s crazy,” Khalid told Access Hollywood. “I just think about all this time that led to this moment and just, of course, I’m a listener and I’m a fan so the fact that I get to be here is just an honor onto itself.”

It’s tough to top John Legend when it comes to coaching so it probably not a risk to pick someone so young as an advisor. We will have to wait and see how the partnership works out this season.
