‘The Voice’: Is the Feud Between Blake Shelton and Adam Levine Real or Fake?

Adam Levine and Blake Shelton have coached side-by-side on The Voice for 15 seasons. Since 2011, they have both coached their share of winners. But there’s rarely an episode without the two battling it out over something — all in good fun of course. Right?

When it comes to reality shows, it’s not always clear whether or not on-screen drama is totally staged or fueled by real-life truth. Fans have long wondered whether or not Shelton and Levine are just feuding for the cameras.

Is their banter really just a beloved bromance? Or do they really not get along in real life and just pretend they’re frenemies?

The Voice fans gave them a ‘ship’ name

Some question the validity of their feud. Others fully embrace “Shevine.”

So far on the show, the two have tossed insults back-and-forth, fought over contestants during blind auditions, hugged, and they’ve even kissed (sort of) more than once.

Whether you think there’s some truth to their onscreen relationship or not, it’s clear the two respect each other — or try to. During Season 15 auditions, Levine begrudgingly told a contestant, “As someone who thoroughly enjoys making Blake suffer all the time, for the first time maybe in my life, I want to see you on Blake’s team. I don’t know why.”

Do Blake Shelton and Adam Levine hate each other IRL?

When you work closely with someone, there are going to be moments you butt heads. It’s definitely happened to Shevine — but that doesn’t mean they’re real-life enemies.

Shelton has admitted that sometimes frustration does get the best of them.

He told The Tennesseean, “We are constantly at each other’s throats, and sometimes we really do get mad at each other. We’re those two guys you knew in high school where we have this bond that is unexplainable. It brings out the best and worst in both of us.”

He has also said they know each other well enough to really get on each other’s nerves. That sounds a lot like something one brother would say about another, don’t you think?

Are Adam Levine and Blake Shelton friends?

OK, so maybe their “feud” on the show is really just … for show. But do the two musicians hang out outside of work? Are they friends? Or do they keep their work and personal relationships in separate compartments? There may be evidence that their bromance is a real thing.

Both have actually used the word “friend” more than once when referring to each other.

It all started even before The Voice wowed audiences for the first time. Levine said about their first encounter, “I remember when I saw him at the meeting at NBC, I was instantly very taken by him …he was not a cookie-cutter guy, and the second we met, we were friends.”

Shelton even told PEOPLE, “[Adam is] one of the most loving people I’ve ever known. We drive each other nuts, but outside of this world, he’s one of my best friends and it’s because of his heart.”

At Levine’s Hollywood Walk of Fame Ceremony in 2017, Shelton said, “I have seen a lot of ups and downs, and I have never had a more honest and loyal friend than Adam Levine through my personal journey.”

Their on-screen feud really is just halfhearted insults between friends after all. Thankfully, it adds something special to the show without wrecking their bond in real life. Poor Adam does deserve a few more wins, though. TEAM ADAM FOREVER!
