‘The Voice’: Nick Jonas Is Set to Become the Next Adam Levine and Fight With Blake Shelton
The new season of The Voice looks like it’s going to be a fun one. Adam Levine, a long-time judge on the reality series, has left the show. He was replaced by Gwen Stefani. Now, the show is adding Nick Jonas to the cast.
Both Jonas and Levine have had similar career tracks, and they have similar pop-rock styles. Even though we haven’t seen Jonas on the show, he’s shaping up to be a good replacement for Levine.
Jonas even started a feud before his first episode. His rival? Blake Shelton, just like Levine.
Blake Shelton and Nick Jonas are off to a rocky start
Shelton and Jonas’ feud is all in good fun, of course. The two started beefing right away, as soon as Jonas announced he’s going to be a judge on the show. It was really Ellen DeGeneres who broke the news: Jonas and his brothers were guests on her show, and she played a video of Shelton ‘welcoming’ Jonas on as a judge.
It wasn’t a very warm welcome. Shelton first made fun of Jonas for his age. The truth is Jonas isn’t that young. He was a child star, so he’s been in the public eye for 20 years. He’s 25 and married.
Jonas does have a baby face though, which may be why Shelton joked that he’d have to check the rules to see if Jonas is old enough to participate as a judge. He went in to say that he would be kicking Jonas’ butt.
Will there be an alliance?
Kelly Clarkson and John Legend also appeared in the video welcoming Jonas to the show. Clarkson immediately suggested an alliance. She and Jonas are both from Texas, so they have something in common.
Legend also suggested an alliance. He said there could even be a three-person arrangement between himself, Jonas and Clarkson. Jonas didn’t seem to keen on that idea, although he did say he’s a fan of Legend. He apparently does want to join an alliance with Clarkson, so fans have that to look forward to this season.
Jonas may be younger than Shelton, but he’s not taking Shelton’s trash talk lying down. He said he would kick his butt right back, only he didn’t say butt.
Adam Levine and Blake Shelton had a famous faux feud
Levine quit the show after 17 seasons. He was tight-lipped about his reason for leaving, but it may have had something to do with wanting to spend more time with his family.
Even though Shelton and Levine trash-talked a lot on the show — Shelton did say Levine “still kiss my a** wherever he is right now” — they actually became close friends during their time working together. Levine and Shelton’s hate for each other is all for entertainment. The two don’t really hate each other in real life, but they do keep their on-screen feud going even when the camera isn’t rolling. Shelton says they try to keep up the competition off-screen so it’s more real when they’re on the air.
