‘The Voice’ Producer Says Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s Romance Is ‘Alive’
When we heard that producers of NBC’s The Voice wanted real-life couple Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton to deliberately fight on the show, it seemed hard to believe they could fake any rivalry. After all, it seems those two truly are smitten with one another to a point where we aren’t hearing about any fall-down bickering.
Then again, there have been inside rumblings about the two fighting behind-the-scenes during prior seasons when Stefani served as a judge. On-camera, they seem to have a solid relationship going, something now confirmed from the producer of The Voice.
For the sake of ratings, knowing that Stefani and Shelton are truly in love makes for more entertaining viewing. It makes us wonder if they’ve shunned any forced idea they should argue across the chairs every week.
The show’s producer says the atmosphere is different on ‘The Voice’
In a recent Parade Magazine piece, executive producer of The Voice (Audrey Morrissey) says she’s having the most fun she’s ever had on the show. Part of it, according to her, was the more loving atmosphere the show has thanks to the romance between Shelton and Stefani.
From all indications, the couple isn’t fighting on-set and they are bringing an overall more positive feeling. Some might say that’s different from when Shelton and Adam Levine would go at each other’s throats. Outside of us all learning this was for reality show fun, there could have been just enough realness to it to unsettle the producers.
Maybe the positive atmosphere this year will change a little if things become more competitive. After all, the show has hardly begun in choosing the singers who might have the best chance of winning.
Because we know now Stefani will leave the show again next year so Nick Jonas can come in, maybe the former isn’t quite as competitive as her serious boyfriend.
Just how competitive could things become?
Because Shelton always wants to win, there could be some more intense interactions if he finds out he’s going to lose again to either John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, or Stefani. The latter is unlikely to win, though you never know.
There seems to be some evidence from avid viewers that Stefani isn’t really into judging well. We’ve said ourselves she seems more into the pop image than understanding the quality of someone’s voice. Should she manage to pull out a win, it might be by sheer happenstance rather than anything overly calculated.
Just imagine what could happen should Shelton lose to his girlfriend. Would we see that “fighting” the producers wanted them to do turn real? In our book, we see them mostly on the same wavelength, meaning if one or the other wins, they’d consider it like mutual satisfaction in giving back to emerging artists.
Is Gwen Stefani capitulating to Blake Shelton?
Some analysts of The Voice have contended Stefani only turns her chair around when she sees Shelton turn his. In other words, she might be following his lead in how to judge on the show. This means she could even be helping him win.
Since they seem to be virtually alike — other than music genre they sing — Stefani may be gladly letting her boyfriend be the one to win since she seems to be there only because everyone wanted her to be. If there’s any truth to that, they clearly have a better relationship than anyone thought.
Seeing them fight on the show now would truly seem forced as much as it is when seeing it on other reality shows. Let’s hope they’ve (mostly) ignored all requests to fight and just let their love shine through.
In a time when some reality shows have hit bottom on revealing relationships, there’s a trend toward more positivity now. Stefani and Shelton may be part of that ray of increased sunshine.
