‘The Voice’: When Does Season 16 with New Coach, John Legend Premiere?
Season 15 is done which means there are already plans being put in place for Season 16 of The Voice. The coaches will mostly look the same except John Legend is replacing Jennifer Hudson. Fans have previously seen him on the show in a shorter role. But what will he be like as a coach that will have to win over vocalists to join his team? Chances are the EGOT winner won’t struggle too much next season. So here is when the next season will premiere and more things to know about Legend joining the show.
The Voice Season 16 will premiere on Feb. 25
The reality show will be going on a bit of a break for the holidays and new year. After that, it will be back on Feb. 25 at 8/7c for a two-hour premiere, according to TV Guide. Then there will an hour-long episode on Tuesday, Feb. 26 and Tuesday, March 5 before the show takes a break again. It will then be up and airing again on Tuesday, April 23 at 8/7c.
John Legend is replacing Jennifer Hudson as a coach
It was already previously announced that John Legend will be taking Jennifer Hudson’s chair next season of The Voice. The Oscar winner isn’t a complete stranger to the show given he was an advisor on Season 12 for Team Adam Levine.
Legend mentioned this experience in his statement about being cast on the show. “I’m thrilled to join the coaches of ‘The Voice,’” he said according to Variety. “I’ve been a guest and mentor on the show multiple times and I’m so excited to discover talented singers and help them make the most of their gift. I hope the world is ready for #TeamJL.” That could help him with the competition, which is good because one of Legend’s fellow coaches already said he won’t help him.
“I’m not here to help John Legend, I’m here to beat John!” Blake Shelton told Entertainment Tonight. “I could give a crap about helping him,” the country singer joked. “I don’t care about giving you advice, John. They pay me to win!”
Legend made an appearance in the finale of Season 15 by performing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” with Esperanza Spalding. The performance gave a little peek into what kind of performances fans will be in for next season. But it was also to promote his record, A Legendary Christmas that features other artists like Stevie Wonder.
Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, and Kelly Clarkson will be the returning coaches next season. This will be Clarkson’s third season of the show after winning twice. The most recent win was Season 15 with 16-year-old country singer, Chevel Shepherd. Will another coach ruin Clarkson’s perfect record? We have to wait and see! Fans also have to wait for team advisors for the season to be announced.
