The Wise Advice Taylor Swift Gave Halsey Might Surprise You
Taylor Swift and Halsey are not two names you would expect to see together. Both women are talented singers, yet their music is somewhat different. However, they seem to get along rather well. Recently, Halsey said that she wants to collaborate with Swift and enjoys her recent album Lover.
So the two of them seem to get along well, despite their differing music styles and different images. And fans of both singers are likely glad. It’s always nice to see talented people getting along instead of competing. Especially when it leads to wonderful advice being shared.
What is Halsey scared of that may have led to this advice from Taylor Swift?
According to an interview that Halsey did with Elle Australia, she is scared of online “cancel culture.” This is the phenomenon where people choose to withdraw support from certain celebrities or public figures based on their actions that are seen by these people as problematic. Halsey describes it like this: “There would be a bad response to something [she] said and [she] would be like, ‘This is it, I’m done.’ And everyone would be like, ‘Relax, you’re not going to lose your career over one thing you said on the internet.'”
Halsey believes that she really could lose her career over something that may be minor. And that would frighten anyone. Luckily, Taylor Swift had some wise words for her.
What advice did Taylor Swift give Halsey?
Halsey told Elle Australia that the two singers were once talking about their role as women in pop culture. According to the singer, Swift said that “We’re not gladiators, we’re musicians.” Good advice, definitely. As Halsey herself says, “if [she] could make sense of everything that was going on in the world right now, [she] wouldn’t be a musician.”
Taylor Swift’s advice to Halsey is right. Though it is important to stand up for what you believe in, and Halsey certainly does, it is also important to know when to stop fighting. It is also crucial to focus on what you do best. For Halsey and Swift, that’s music.
Halsey will still fight when necessary
That being said, Halsey is still going to stand up for what she believes in. She will just know to pick her battles. According to the singer, “we need to make people take responsibility when they have a platform. But it can be frustrating when that leads to people doing stuff they don’t really understand, because they’re afraid of being attacked for not saying enough.”
People with platforms who want to stand up for what they believe in should do so with things they truly know and care about. Standing up for something just so you don’t get attacked for not doing so is not a good idea. As Halsey says, “it needs to be real, otherwise you’re doing more harm than good.”
Halsey may not be a gladiator, as Taylor Swift said, but she is a talented musician. Both women are. And both will likely continue to delight fans with their wonderful music. Who knows, perhaps one day they will collaborate on something.
Even if they don’t, the two talented women seem to get along well. And that probably warms many fans’ hearts.
