Henry Cavill is a fan of The Witcher as well as being the star of the show. Cavill himself told Entertainment Weekly that he “played the games a lot.” He later told Jimmy Kimmel, according to PC Gamer, that he “played the games—they released a game called Witcher 3 about five years ago now. Played that game to death.”

When he met showrunner Lauren Hissrich, “that’s when [he] learned there were books. Read the books and realized that [he] was missing out on a whole world of the stuff.” According to Cavill, he has “been into the fantasy genre since [he] was a kid—since before [he] could read, [his] dad was reading [him] fantasy books.”

According to the showrunner herself, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Henry [Cavill] is a huge fan of [The Witcher]. He’s read all of the books. He’s played all the games.” He told her, before casting even began, that he “would love to play this character.”

Hissrich adds that “The first time [she] met [Cavill, she] hadn’t even started writing the scripts yet. And once [she] started writing [she] couldn’t get Henry’s voice out of [her] head for the character.” According to the showrunner, “He embodies Geralt in a way that [she doesn’t] think anybody else could.”

How did Henry Cavill immerse himself in his role as Geralt?

Cavill took the role very seriously, according to producer Tomek Bagiński. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Bagiński praises Henry Cavill’s dedication to The Witcher. “It’s about Henry,” the producer says, “and how he became Geralt.”

According to Bagiński, Cavill “was walking around in the jacket to make it work, because the leather had to be worn out.” The producer adds that ” there is no other way than to just live in this wardrobe, in this cloth, to make it work.” And Cavill definitely seems to be dedicated to making it work.

Cavill is not only a fan of the story and its characters, he truly inhabited the world of The Witcher. According to Bagiński, Cavill “was sticking close to the set, so he can be closer to the Witcher world.” He did this “for many weeks,” the producer says.

“He was there. He became this character,” Bagiński adds. According to the producer, “You don’t have very often an actor who is so committed to the role, and this was beautiful.” Bagiński goes on to say that Cavill’s dedication to the role of Geralt “was such a great, great thing to work with.”
