The’Maleficent: Mistress of Evil’ Teaser Trailer Makes Us All Want To Be Bad
The teaser trailer for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil dropped earlier this week and fans are freaking out.
The long-anticipated sequel to Disney’s 2014 live-action film Maleficent is almost here. Here’s everything we know about the film so far.
Following the success of the first film, talk arose about Disney making a sequel, but it seemed that the biggest challenge was Angelina Jolie’s impending retirement from acting.
After much speculation about whether or not the actress would reprise the role of the misunderstood Maleficent, it’s great to see that she’s back and better than ever. Starring as the horned and scorned fairy of our dreams, the sequel truly would not be the same without her.
Next, following in the footsteps of her older sister, Elle Fanning has become an acting phenom in her own right. Though Fanning has been acting since 2001, she achieved major recognition and even more attention following her performance in Maleficent as Princess Aurora.
With a bevy of recent projects in both film and television, we’re happy to report that Fanning will also be reprising her role for the new film. We can only hope that her amazing acting chops will lend themselves to an even bigger role in the sequel.
Joining the cast as a new character is actress and producer, Michelle Pfeiffer. Known as one of the most well-respected actresses of her time, we know Pfeiffer is more than capable of holding her own up against an extremely talented cast. Pfeiffer plays the role of Queen Ingrith and in the teaser trailer, she and Maleficent appeared to be going toe to toe. We certainly can’t wait to see that showdown.
Funnily enough, this isn’t the first film that Pfeiffer and Fanning have starred in together. Back in 2001, the pair both had roles in the film I Am Sam. Though Fanning was just 2 at the time, we love seeing them reunited 18 years later.
Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, and Juno Temple all reprise their roles as Diaval, Knotgrass, and Thistlewit respectively. Meanwhile, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ed Skrein join Pfeiffer as the newcomers to the franchise. We can’t wait to see how the enhance the Maleficent universe.
Though the trailer is only a teaser, there’s so much information that we can glean from it. Could there be a possible love story and even an engagement for Princess Aurora? Is the relationship between the Princess and her Godmother Maleficent in jeopardy? Will there be an all-out war between humans and faeries? And who exactly is the Mistress of Evil, Maleficent or Queen Ingrith?
Only time will tell, but we’re counting down the days until the full trailer releases for more clues.
The release date
It’s only fitting that this delicious dose of evil is hitting theaters during the spookiest month of the year. The film is set to release on Oct. 18, 2019, giving us just two weeks to come up with an amazing costume for Halloween based off of our favorite character. Until then, we’ll be rewatching the teaser trailer on repeat.
