There’s 1 Good Reason Why No One Cares About ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ Anymore
It’s hard to believe that more than a decade has passed since the first episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians aired. Kylie and Kendall Jenner were just awkward adolescents when the series premiered.
Now Kylie is one of the youngest female billionaires. Khloe Kardashian is unrecognizable. Four out of the five sisters are mothers. So much has changed, but one thing that’s even truer now is that all five sisters (plus mom Kris) are verified celebrities.

But if the Kardashians are so famous that three out of the five Kar-Jenner sisters have the most followed accounts on Instagram, then why do their audience numbers keep dropping? This season was supposed to be extra juicy, with all the drama about the Khloe/Tristan Thompson/Jordyn Woods cheating scandal taking center stage.
But there’s one major problem that’s making so many people tune out from KUWTK.
The Kardashian clan shares everything on social media
In a weird twist of events, the reason why fewer people are interested in watching KUWTK is that they already know everything about their lives. That’s because Kim, Kourtney, Khloe, Kylie, and Kendall post so often on social media that we already feel like we know them intimately. Their fame is actually hurting their ratings.
When KUWTK first aired, arguably the only famous Kardashian was Kim because of a leaked sex tape she made with Ray J. Now everyone is on a first-name basis with the family and, love them or hate them, they’re basically everywhere. Even people who have no interest in their lives will inevitably encounter their faces on supermarket tabloids or sponsored social media ads.
Some people think the drama is fake
Ever since news of the Jordyn Woods cheating scandal broke, critics have been questioning whether the event really happened or if it was possibly staged to drum up interest in the show, Jordyn Woods herself, or both. But whether the whole thing was fake is almost beside the point.
By the time the episode aired that explained what happened, the whole incident had already been dissected and scrutinized for months in the media. Fans were sick of hearing about Tristan Thompson cheating with Kylie’s former best friend and figured they’d already heard everything they needed to know.
The show probably won’t get canceled soon
Despite declining ratings, KUWTK is still a highly watched moneymaker for E! and most likely won’t get canceled anytime soon. But not everyone is thrilled about it. Kourtney went on record saying she’d be happy to stop filming in the near future.
As Kourtney explained, “I always say I want to move away someday and just be away from it all. Sail away. No one will ever see me again…I keep throwing up different places, but then I’ll go there to visit and I’ll be like, ‘Nope, this isn’t it, but glad I came.” Kourtney even told Paper Magazine that she would be “very happy” if the cameras would stop rolling tomorrow.
Sounds like some fans wouldn’t mind that either. Because even without a show, we’ll still be keeping up with those Kardashians for a long, long time.
