These ‘Bachelor’ Alums Are ‘Disappointed’ And ‘Bored’ With Peter Weber Being Named The Bachelor
Peter Weber is officially the next bachelor and fans are torn. While Peter had a strong fan base during Hannah Brown’s season of The Bachelorette, much of Bachelor Nation was hoping for Mike Johnson to be the franchise’s next bachelor. Like Peter, Mike was well-loved by Bachelorette fans, but he also would have been the first ever black man to star in the lead role.
‘Bachelor In Paradise’ alums Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon thought Mike Johnson would be the next bachelor
“It’s interesting because there was so much talk about Mike potentially being the first black Bachelor, and he seemed like a good choice. And on TV we saw nothing but great things from him,” Jared Haibon recently told People. “I also think that Peter’s gonna be great. That’s the thing. It’s not like I don’t think Peter’s going to be a bad Bachelor. I think he’ll be a great Bachelor.”
For Ashley Iaconetti, she feels “detached” to Peter, like the audience didn’t really get to know him during Hannah Brown’s season.
“I’ll be honest, I feel like I have not for quite some time felt so detached from a choice for the Bachelor,” said Ashley. “He was very nice on his season, but I don’t know that I know him very well. He’s just been sweet and lovely, but I don’t know him.”
To be fair, Ashley and Jared didn’t feel they knew Mike extremely well either, but after watching him on Paradise and getting to know him better in Las Vegas at the iHeartRadio Music Festival this past weekend, the couple’s now a huge fan.
“I’m a little shocked that he’s not the Bachelor,” Haibon said about Mike.
“I’m actually a little disappointed, but like, that’s no offense to Peter,” said Ashley.
Both Ashley and Jared made a point to say they weren’t “doubting” the choice of Peter, and that they’re sure it’s “going to be a fantastic season,” they’re just surprised and are, now, really big fans of Mike’s.
Rachel Lindsay is bored–’we’ve seen 24 Peters’
Former bachelorette Rachel Lindsay would have liked to have seen the franchise pick someone different from the men they’ve chosen in the past.
“I think Peter seems like a very nice guy. He seems lovely. This is absolutely nothing against him, but how many Peters have we seen before? What season are we on? 24. So, we’ve seen 24 Peters. I’m bored. And it’s nothing personal against him,” she told Entertainment Tonight.
She thought, for certain, Bachelor Nation was going to get their first black bachelor in Mike Johnson, and she was disappointed when that didn’t happen.
“For the first time, I was very confident that we were going to see our first black Bachelor,” she explained. “And so if no one else is going to speak on it, then I guess it’s my duty to say it.”
She says there’s a definite problem with “the system” in regards to diversity.
“I want to be hopeful, but when you have a contestant like Mike Johnson, who seems to check all the boxes, how is he not the bachelor? I don’t understand,” she said. “I’m sure they have some reason for not picking him, and I’m going to trust in that, but at the same time, the system isn’t working in giving us a bachelor who is a person of color. So we need to change the system. Something has to be done. Break the rules, step outside the box, give the people what they want!”
