These Famously Picky Royal Family Members Really Love Meghan Markle

Meeting your significant other’s family is nerve-wracking for anyone. But meeting the royal family? That’s in a league all it’s own. Leave it to Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, to handle the task beautifully.

She reportedly studied up on Prince Philip’s genealogy before spending her first Christmas with the royal family, according to Brides. During the holiday, “Meghan asked a lot of questions, about Philip’s side of the family and his connection to Greece,” a ‘palace insider’ said. “Was she told to say that by Prince Harry? I don’t know. But she got really involved in the conversation,” they added.

But certain members of the royal family who are known to be very selective about who they like took to Markle immediately. Keep reading to learn which picky members of the royal family Markle won over the instant they met.

Meeting Queen Elizabeth II

In their first sit-down interview after announcing their engagement in November 2017, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle discussed their life together with the BBC.

They discussed their first date, meeting each other’s families — namely, Queen Elizabeth II — and more.

On meeting the queen, Markle and Prince Harry both confirmed they had met “a couple of times.”

When the interviewer asked what it was like, Markle responded with, “It’s incredible, I think, you know, a) to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honor and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother, all of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her […] she’s an incredible woman.”

Who Markle won over immediately

It’s at this point in the interview that Prince Harry reveals members of the royal family who took to Markle immediately.

“And the corgis took to you straight away,” Prince Harry said. “I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing,” he added.

This was one of the best things that could’ve happened for Markle. Being in a picky dog’s good graces is a big deal. Clearly, the queen’s corgis are notoriously hard to please because they’ve never been friendly toward Prince Harry.

The dogs were “just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet.” Talk about a good sign. Prince Harry quickly added they were “just wagging tails and I was just like ‘Argh.’”

Markle is a known animal lover. She has two dogs of her own and one she shares with Prince Harry.

About the queen’s corgis

Queen Elizabeth II first fell in love with corgis when she received one at the age of seven, named Dookie. At one time she had as many as 13 corgis.

Her dogs are pampered, getting gourmet meals which the queen herself likes to give her dogs as often as her schedule allows. They also have their own room in Buckingham Palace known as the Corgi Room.

In 2012, two of the queen’s corgis became international stars when they appeared alongside James Bond actor Daniel Craig and the queen herself in a video for the London Olympics’ opening ceremony.
