Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Melania and Donald Trump’s son Barron

After being elected president in 2016, Donald Trump and his family have become the most famous faces in the world, but there is a member of the Trump clan who is less visible than some of his older siblings and that’s Barron Trump.

Here are some things you may not have known about Melania and Donald’s only son including what his dad never had to do when Barron was a baby.

Barron is the first boy to live at the White House in over 50 years

Not since John F. Kennedy’s son has a male child lived in the White House. You’re probably thinking back now to the past few presidents and realizing that they all had daughters.

Before the Clintons, though, some of the presidents had sons. But at the time their fathers were elected, they were all old enough to live on their own, outside of the White House.

His famous address might not be as grand as his last one

With a swimming pool, a bowling alley, and a movie theater, the digs at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue would be pretty impressive to most kids but Barron was already enjoying the good life back in New York City.

Growing up in Trump Tower in his family’s luxurious penthouse offered Barron plenty of perks and he even had an entire floor to himself, which his mother referred to as his living room.

Parents at his New York City school were upset after election

Before moving into the White House with Donald, Melania and Barron stayed behind in Manhattan for five months. The reason was so Barron could finish out his academic year at Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School. But some parents at the private school were unhappy about the inconveniences that came with having the son of a president enrolled there.

Following the election, some parents spoke to Vanity Fair about security concerns while others were annoyed with things like the school’s only elevator being shut down when Melania was in the building for an event.

Just ahead of Barron and his mother moving to D.C., it was announced that the first son was not going to attend Sidwell Friends, which is the school many first kids before him went to.

The Trumps decided to instead send Barron to St. Andrew’s Episcopal School located in Potomac, Maryland. Tuition for the school cost around $40,000 a year and it provides education for children from prekindergarten through 12th grade. The first lady praised St. Andrew’s for “its diverse community and commitment to academic excellence.”

He’s fluent in two languages and learning more

Barron is fluent in English and his mother’s native Slovene. The latter is the language he used to communicate with his grandparents when they lived at Trump Tower.

There have also been reports that Melania has been teaching him some French since he was young as well. In addition to English, Slovenian, and French the FLOTUS also speaks Serbo-Croatian, Italian, and German.

Donald Trump didn’t tuck him in or change his diapers though

Melania and Donald Trump have always said that they did not have nannies caring for Barron because the first lady is a “hands-on mother” and she’s perfectly fine with the fact that her husband is not as hands on.

“He didn’t change diapers and I am completely fine with that,” she said. “It is not important to me. It’s all about what works for you. It’s very important to know the person you’re with. And we know our roles. I didn’t want him to change the diapers or put Barron to bed. I love every minute of it.”

Melania intends to keep him out of the spotlight

Melania is aware of the scrutiny her family receives and intends to keep Barron shielded from that and out of spotlight as much as possible so he can have a somewhat normal childhood.

“I keep him balanced and — just have him a childhood as normal as possible,” she previously told ABC News. “And I just want to have him — out of the spotlight for now.”
