This 1 Special Moment from the Royal Wedding Will Make You Cry
Prince Harry and Meghan Markles’ royal wedding was truly an event to remember. With more celebrity star power than the red carpet and tons of special details that honored the bride and groom, their ceremony was wonderfully unique.
And whether you’re an avid royal watcher or just a casual observer, there were plenty of tear-jerking moments. Here are all the most emotional moments from the royal wedding, leading up to the one split-second gesture that brought on a torrential downpour of feels (page 7).
7. The long walk down the aisle
In the days leading up to the royal wedding, there was plenty of stress for Markle where her family was concerned. Her father’s health problems probably didn’t help with the stress — especially because they meant he had to forego his role in the ceremony at the last minute.
So, there was something really satisfying and sweet about seeing Markle begin her long walk down the aisle. She began the journey without anyone by her side, looking radiant and confident. As she made her way further in, Harry’s father, Prince Charles, stepped up to do the honors of giving her away.
It was an especially sweet gesture that seemed to symbolize the royal family’s acceptance of Markle. And anyone who’d been following all the drama had to feel relief and joy at the fact that the big moment went off without a hitch.

6. Mother and daughter moments
Even with all the family chaos, Markle still had her mother by her side. Doria Ragland accompanied her daughter in the car ride to St. George’s Chapel. And she watched proudly, and occasionally emotionally, from the pews as Markle said her vows with Harry.
Some royal wedding watchers made a point to praise Ragland for the work she put in as a single mother. Even if you didn’t have that context, anyone who is a mother or knows a mother couldn’t help but imagine what an incredible moment it must have been for her.

5. Honoring Princess Diana
Before Harry and Markle’s wedding, there was a lot of speculation about how the couple would honor his late mother. And by the end of the ceremony, everyone watching knew she was there in spirit.
Most notably, three of her siblings were present at the ceremony. And her older sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, made not only a rare appearance, but gave the first lay address of the afternoon. Fellowes also gave a reading at Princess Diana’s funeral.

4. Stand by me
Most royal weddings don’t include gospel choirs. So the presence of the Kingdom Choir at Harry and Markles’ ceremony was an unexpected delight. It was a perfect tribute to the couple, who have already set a precedent for breaking some royal rules.
And the choir’s rousing rendition of “Stand By Me” was one of the highlights of the entire wedding. Some suspect the pair chose the song because it’s known as a civil rights anthem. And if their commitment to social justice is so strong that they wanted to include it in their wedding, then it was most uplifting indeed.
Next: It was clear to see how much Markle and Harry mean to each other.
3. The look of love
It can be easy to forget, in the pomp and circumstance of a royal wedding, that what it’s really all about is two people making an important commitment. But that was clear to see after Markle joined Harry at the altar.
He removed her veil, and the camera caught a glimpse of her locking eyes with her soon-to-be husband. The love she feels for Harry was so plain to see that it was hard not to get caught up in the emotion of the moment.
Next: Harry’s devotion to Markle was every bit as obvious.
2. “You look amazing”
Almost everyone agrees that Markle’s wedding look was on point. But really, the only opinion besides hers that matters is Harry’s. And he made it completely obvious that he was very into it.
In a sweet post-veil lifting moment captured on TV, he was seen telling her, “You look amazing. I’m so lucky.” It was like a line straight out of a fairytale romance. And for many fans watching, it was the most swoon-worthy moment of the entire ceremony.
Next: But it was this moment from Harry that was truly tear-jerking.
7. We’re not crying, he’s crying (OK, we’re crying, too)
Harry looked visibly teary as he watched Markle walk down the aisle. And shortly after she joined him at the altar, he was seen wiping away what looked like tears. There’s something so heartwarming about seeing someone genuinely emotional.
After everything Harry has been through, he definitely deserves to find happiness. So when it became obvious that Harry was having a hard time keeping it together, it was hard not to cry, too.
