This Character Is The Perfect Person To Carry Spider-Man Out Of The MCU

Now that fans can breathe a sigh of relief in regards to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man staying in the MCU, there is a lot to theorize about the future of the character. This new deal between Sony and Marvel only includes two more movies, but Kevin Feige hinted that Spider-Man could share a home with both Sony and Marvel.

To do this, there’s already a character that is the perfect person to carry Spider-Man out of the MCU and into Sony’s Spider-Verse. She might even be able to help him travel back and forth. That comic book character is Madame Web.

Sony is developing a Madame Web solo film as part of their Spider-Verse

Collider reported on Sept. 26 that Sony was developing a spin-off solo movie for Madame Web, aka Cassandra Webb. She’s an older woman who’s been blind her whole life and developed psychic powers, making her clairvoyant. She also has a condition that affects her muscles, putting her in a machine that looks like a web.

The most well-known reason for her connection with Spider-Man is that he saved one of her students. She’s a target for several villains because of her precognition powers, but her partnership with Spider-Man helps her in the long run.

Spider-Man might be in both Sony’s universe and the MCU

As Showbiz Cheat Sheet has mentioned before, Madame Web’s multiverse manipulation, along with her connection to Spider-Man in the comics, are perfect ways to introduce him into Sony’s Spider-Verse. It’s hard to have a Madame Web story without Spidey, considering she’s only ever been a side character. The fact that Sony chose her for a solo movie hints at this plan.

When the news broke on Sept. 27 that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will stay in the MCU for two more films, President of Marvel, Kevin Feige, mentioned this multidimensional travel for Spider-Man moving forward.

I am thrilled that Spidey’s journey in the MCU will continue, and I and all of us at Marvel Studios are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spider-Man is a powerful icon and hero whose story crosses all ages and audiences around the globe. He also happens to be the only hero with the superpower to cross cinematic universes, so as Sony continues to develop their own Spidey-verse you never know what surprises the future might hold.

Calling Peter Parker the “only hero” that can cross cinematic universes means both studios are going to find an effortless way to send Spider-Man from the MCU to Sony. Madame Web’s powers make her the best candidate to aid in that.

Madame Web can control travel through multiple dimensions

As ScreenRant pointed out, Madame Web can use the “interdimensional force” called The Web of Life and Destiny. The Web holds time and space together, which would explain how she can see into the future at times. It keeps the multiple universes together and actually is what causes Parker’s Spidey Senses (or Peter Tingle, whichever you prefer).

In the comics, Madame Web can pull Spider-Man back and forth between these dimensions, kind of like what Into The Spider-Verse showed. With Sony’s growing catalog of Marvel villain movies — Venom and now Morbius — this could weave right into a storyline where Madame Web needs to pull Peter Parker away from the MCU’s dimension and into Sony’s to help fight crime.

In theory, he’d be able to go back and forth as long as Madame Web exists, so if Sony and Marvel ever struck a future deal where he’s ready to do so, he can. But if his upcoming two MCU films are the last with Marvel, this Web of Destiny storyline can easily explain his crossing over in a clean way.
