This ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Contestant Has Another Baby on the Way
Season 28 of ABC’s reality competition show Dancing With The Stars is in full swing. With headlines including the casting of former U.S. Press Secretary Sean Spicer, Christie Brinkley having to enlist daughter Sailor to take her place, and Ray Lewis recently withdrawing from the competition due to an injury, this season is already drama-packed.
Another announcement was just made regarding one of the DWTS contestants that has been at the top of the leaderboard.
And baby makes six
James Van Der Beek has been at the forefront of the show burning up the dance floor, and now he’s making news sharing that he and his wife Kimberly are expecting their sixth child (you read it correctly – sixth!). According to People, the couple married in 2010 and welcomed their first child, daughter Olivia, who is now 9, that same year. Olivia soon had company, being followed by siblings Joshua, 7, Annabel, 5, Emilia, 3, Gwendolyn, 15 months.
“Thrilled beyond belief to announce that another little bundle of joy has picked us to be their family,” Van Der Beek wrote on his Instagram post announcing the happy news.
Van Der Beek chose to share his special announcement on the October 6 episode of DWTS, including a video of himself and Kimberly, along with three of their children, at an ultrasound appointment where the couple got to hear the wonderful sound of their baby’s heart beat for the first time. “Hearing the heartbeat is something you never take for granted,” Van Der Beek said.
Trying to erase the stigma
The DWTS contestant also revealed in his Instagram post that he and Kimberly have been dealing with loss, bringing attention to how the term ‘miscarriage’ needs to be rephrased.
“@vanderkimberly and I have been through three of those first appointments to discover either no heartbeat, or no baby, and she wanted to share this moment,” Van Der Beek wrote. “Miscarriage (a word that needs a replacement – nobody failed to ‘carry’, these things sometimes just happen) is something that people rarely talk about, and often go through in secret.”
The Dawson’s Creek alum went on to express the need for change when it comes to this issue, hoping that they can contribute to that change by sharing their story. “there needs to be zero shame around it, or around giving yourself the time and space to grieve,” he posted. “We decided to put ourselves out there – not knowing what we’d find – in an effort to chip away at any senseless stigma around this experience and to encourage people who might be going through it to open themselves up to love & support from friends and family when they need it most.”
Van Der Beek concluded on a high note, writing, “Happily, for us – this time- we walked out with tears of joy. #AndThenIDancedAQuickStep.”
Dancing with joy
Van Der Beek was thrilled to bring the news to his dance partner, Emma Slater. “To share this news with Emma is a real treat,” he said.
Slater found the announcement perfectly timed with their routine for the upcoming episode. “Do you know what’s really appropriate is we’re doing a very joyous dance this week,” she said. “We’re dancing a quick step and the song is ‘Walking on Sunshine’ which you are!”
Though the couple scored just a 28, nothing could get Van Der Beek down knowing he has another family member on the way.
