This ‘Friends’ Star is Replacing Rachel as the Fashion Icon

Jennifer Aniston’s Rachel Green in Friends — with outfits perfectly selected by Debra McGuire — was a trendsetter and fashion icon of the 1990s. From the haircut nearly every girl was donning to the stylish Ralph Lauren wardrobe (perks of the job), the character became intimately tied to her public influence over 90s fashion and beyond, as fans still recreate some of the character’s most memorable looks.

While Rachel Green continues to bear influence over those reminiscing about Friends on the daily — the millennial crowd posing for “instagrammable” moments in plaid skirts and perfectly-fitted tops — a different Friends character has emerged as the show’s newest fashionista.

If you’re thinking Monica Geller (Courtney Cox) or Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow), you may want to think again. This character is bringing the cozy comfort with the perfect amount of (if not too much) give in each garment. Lately, many Friends lovers are pulling from Chandler Bing’s style to create their newest Friends-inspired looks.

‘Friends’ character Chandler Bing becomes a fashion influencer

Though it’s been about 15 years since the last Friends episode aired, it’s never too late to rewatch episodes of Friends and decide you would like to give one of the characters’ looks a try. Below, you will see Chandler-inspired looks that have been sweeping the internet as of late:

Chandler Bing was famous for his blue jeans and white t, but the bulgy white socks really seal the deal here! And as for the other outfits, she’s brought you the baggy button-downs, the loose pants, and the casual sneakers!

Did Chandler just leave work and throw off the suit jacket? Cinching the waist, but leaving the sweater extra baggy and tucked in, this girl’s outfit is what you could call comfy posh.

Whether the outfit above is for hanging out on the couch, going to Central Perk, or grabbing a bite for lunch is beyond anyone’s guess, but layers are in again…maybe? Sort of?

Why Chandler Bing?

Out of all characters, why has Chandler Bing become a fashion influencer? What about his look has people mimicking his wardrobe? For starters, the baggy clothing is sort of in at the moment, and it’s comfortable. There’s a push for everyday clothing to be less restrictive and a bit freer.

Chandler also has a look that’s a little bit less polished and more playful; those who want to emulate Friends for an instagrammable moment, but don’t love Rachel’s perfected style or Ross’s salmon stiffness can choose to opt for Bing. They can play it down a bit while capitalizing on the trend and the hashtag.

Whatever the reason, it will be interesting to see whether this trend continues. Will people continue to dress up like Bing, or will another Friends character sweep in to seize the style title from Chandler (at some point down the line)?
