This ‘General Hospital’ Actor Appeared in 1 Episode of ‘The Office’

Sometimes familiar actors made small stints on The Office like Idris Elba, Amy Adams, and more. A General Hospital actor appeared in one episode of the show and accidentally sabotaged Michael Scott’s (Steve Carell) plan.

Robert Dunder (John Ingle) was the co-founder of Dunder Mifflin. We see him only once and it’s in the episode, “Dunder Mifflin Infinity.”

Ryan Howard (B.J. Novak) announces the change of Dunder Mifflin’s website being fixed. He said it’s to make the company more competitive by streamlining business. He said this will make things “younger and sleeker” to adapt to the marketplace. Everyone is given a Blackberry for work.

But this worries some of the employees, especially the older ones. They are wondering if they’ll eventually be phased out. Creed Bratton (Creed Bratton) tries to act younger and look younger by dying his hair.

Michael decides to bring in Robert Dunder to speak to his employees. But it doesn’t go over well because the 87-year-old co-founder starts telling the long story about how the company was started. That loses the attention of many including Michael. He then makes Robert leave quickly.

The plan backfires and only makes Ryan more annoyed with Michael. The end of the episode also foreshadows some challenges for the employees. That’s because customers will soon be able to buy paper online, which is making the salespeople’s jobs that much harder to make a commission.

Ingle played Edward Quartermaine on General Hospital from 1993 to 2012. This was after David Lewis left the role due to illness. The character was the patriarch of the wealthy Quartermaine family.

Edward often used his money to wield power over his family members. The character later died surrounded by most of his family members. The shares of his fortune was split amongst his grandchildren. Tracy (Jill Farren Phelps ), however, didn’t get to inherit anything and that led to more drama. The actor won Outstanding Scene Stealer at the Soap Opera Awards for his work in 1999.

General Hospital wasn’t Ingle’s only soap opera job. He also appeared on Days of Our Lives from 2004 to 2006 by playing Mickey Horton. Ingle was the third actor to take on the role.

Jenna Fischer, who played Pam Beesley, and Angela Kinsey, who played Angela Martin, talked about Ingle’s scene on their podcast, Office Ladies. “I rewatched it a few times because he’s so perfect. His delivery is spot on,” Kinsey said.

Fischer also revealed Ingle worked as an acting teacher at Beverly Hills High School. He taught Nicolas Cage, Albert Brooks, David Schwimmer, and more during that time. Ingle passed away in 2012.

Sadly, Ingle never got to appear on the show again. But his short appearance thrilled the actors on the show. Fischer and Kinsey talked about how relatable the situation was to listening to someone telling a story badly.
