This ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Just Tied the Knot
Wedding bells just rang for a cast member of Grey’s Anatomy! After an engagement that began at the very end of 2017, Camilla Luddington, who plays Dr. Jo Karev on the ABC hit series, wed actor Matthew Alan on August 17.
Keeping it real
The couple has been putting together their big event for quite some time. For Luddington, she had a bit of practice since her character finished season 14 by marrying her longtime love Dr. Alex Karev, (played by Justin Chambers) though she made a point of not imitating the television nuptials. “When we were picking out dresses (for the season finale), I tried to avoid things I wanted in real life,” Luddington told Entertainment Tonight in 2018. “Which did work out because I always thought Jo would wear a short wedding dress. So, getting married doesn’t feel in any way spoiled or like I’ve already done it on TV.”
While the actress was trying to separate her real-life wedding from her character’s big event, the couple was taken with the venue of the Karev nuptials. “What’s funny is we shot our TV wedding at a place called Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California, and Matt came to visit the set and he stepped on and we were like, ‘Damn!’” Luddington said. “Because it was so gorgeous and they do weddings there and he was like, ‘We could have done it here, but now you and Alex have taken it!’ I mean, we even joked about, ‘Hey should we just run down the aisle and just quickly say our vows to the actor priest and be done with it?’”
An intimate gathering
The pair tied the knot with the romantic backdrop of the California coastline in front of 70 of their closest friends and family, according to People. Luddington wore a couture gown by Mira Zwillinger with handmade embroidery.
“The couple wanted romantic elegance with lots of natural elements, set against crisp white walls mixed with wood tables, hanging rattan light fixtures, an abundance of white and green floral, that kept it beautifully classic and fresh,” Karen Waldron, their wedding planner from Ampersand Entertainment Light, told People. “Touches of gold accents were mixed into the tables for just that splash of glam.”
Making it official
The couple has been together since 2008 and share a daughter, 2-year-old Hayden. Luddington felt that having Hayden witness their ‘I do’s’ added a special component to their official union. ““We’re just ready to do the damn thing. We kind of already feel married because we have a 2-year-old. But there’s something romantic to us about solidifying that family unit by having the ceremony and actually having Hayden present,” Luddington said. “To be honest, I’m just excited to get into that new normal of married life.”
Luddington walked down the aisle to a sentimental favorite of the couple – the Temper Trap’s “Sweet Disposition.” Luddington shared the song’s special meaning, telling People, “In 2008 we went to a Temper Trap concert together. It was our first date!”
Alan proposed to Luddington on New Year’s Eve 2017. The actress announced the news of their engagement on Instagram, posting, “Sooo this happened on New Year’s Eve…” with a photo of her engagement ring. “I’m not sure I even let Matt get through his proposal before I started yelling YES YES YES!! Of course it was a yes! Also… Hayden approves.. 😉 💍✨✨✨”
This is evidently a showbiz family. Alan is also a busy actor, having appeared on several television shows, including the high-profile series 13 Reasons Why, according to IMDb. He has also been in several big-screen films, such as Trust Fund, Hidden in the Woods, Summer Snow, The Shifting, Absolute Fear, Red Tails, Walking the Halls, and 2084. Most recently, Alan starred in Hulu’s Castle Rock.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
