This Is Twitter’s Most Influential Person of 2019

Taylor Swift is the most influential person again on Twitter this year, repeating the distinction she received in 2018.

Brandwatch, a social media analysis company, made the announcement yesterday.

The company uses its audience analysis tool to rate tweeters with a score measuring their influence with their audience. The score ranks out of 100 how much genuine engagement they spark, with Swift scoring 97.

The ranking doesn’t mean she’s the most followed person on Twitter

As of Dec. 17, 2019, according to Brandwatch, Swift is the fifth most followed person on Twitter.

Yes, she’s a huge musical star, and one of the richest, but it’s also brought her a ton of Twitter followers as well, 85.5 million followers to be exact.

The fact that Swift is not even the most-followed account on Twitter and that she doesn’t tweet that often, adds to the distinction of her having been named Most Influential. The Top 5 most-followed Twitter accounts for 2019, according to Brandwatch, are:

5. The aforementioned Taylor Swift, with 85.4 million followers

4. Rihanna with 94.9 million followers

3. Justin Bieber with 107.4 million followers

2. Katy Perry with 108.3 million followers

1.Former U.S. president Barack Obama, with 110.7 million followers

The Brandwatch website spells out its methodology for choosing the Most Influential Twitter account.

“For this research, we used Brandwatch Audiences to search for active tweeters with a high influence score. ‘Audiences’ ranks accounts according to a selection of criteria that, added together, create their influence score.”

“This is our measure of how influential an account is over time, based on the level of genuine engagement they are creating. While lots of followers, retweets and replies will help, the more influential the people they engage with, the better the score.”

Swift has won this distinction two years in a row

This is the second year in a row that Taylor Swift has been named Twitter’s most influential person. It proves again the extent of the Shake It Up singer’s reach as a celebrity, as well as her influence over millions of Twitter followers who wait with bated breath for her pronouncements, tweets, and reactions.

Her success as an influencer on Twitter doesn’t really make sense since she follows exactly no one on the social media platform. But the 30-year-old must be doing something right to have as many followers as she does. It’s interesting to note, as well, that her tweets are rarely new posts.

They are usually just reposted content from her Facebook and Instagram accounts, the platforms she favors over Twitter.

What has Swift used her platform for?

The times that the Lover singer Swift has tweeted, it’s turned heads. She’s used Twitter to express her views on LGBTQ rights, her feelings on President Trump, and her copyright battle with record execs Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun.
