Is ‘This Is Us’ a Rerun Tonight, Jan. 26? Dan Fogelman Teases New Season 5 Episodes Soon

It looks like This Is Us fans will have to settle for another rerun tonight, Jan. 26. Here’s why and what creator Dan Fogelman said about the new season 5 episodes coming soon.

Why ‘This Is Us’ Season 5 is airing a rerun instead of a new episode tonight, Jan. 26, 2021

On Tuesday, Jan. 19, NBC aired a repeat episode of This Is Us. Fogelman confirmed the sudden shift was caused by production delays amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“No new episode of #ThisIsUs tonight,” Fogelman wrote on Twitter. “Covid-related production delays in LA have forced us to delay a few weeks.”

Now, NBC will release another This Is Us rerun tonight, Jan. 26. Fogelman also updated fans on the new episodes.

“Hey all – so #ThisIsUs is a repeat again tonight as we catch back up… more info coming soon,” Fogelman wrote on Twitter. “Working hard (and safely) to get back with new episodes soon. Thanks for the patience and the lovely (mostly) notes.”

While the This Is Us team is working hard to release new episodes of season 5, NBC plans to drop at least two more reruns. According to the network’s schedule, “Forty: Part One” will air on Tuesday, Jan. 26. Meanwhile, “Forty: Part Two” will be released on Tuesday, Feb. 2. TV Guide also revealed This Is Us is expected to return with season 5 episode 7 on Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Of course, some This Is Us fans might be upset by the surprise hiatus. The last episode aired on Jan. 12. So, it’ll be about three weeks between new episodes. That said, Fogelman recently hinted it’ll be worth the wait.

“The next few are big ones, and we are close,” Fogelman tweeted on Jan. 19. “So we hope you’ll hang in there with us.”

Meanwhile, the promo trailer for This Is Us Season 5 Episode 7 left viewers on a major cliffhanger. In the last episode titled “Birth Mother,” Randall (Sterling K. Brown) found the strength to let go of his pain after learning about Laurel’s (Jennifer C. Holmes) past. And as a result, Randall wanted to make amends with Kevin (Justin Hartley). That said, Randall caught Kevin at a bad time.

When Randall called Kevin, the actor was desperately trying to get home to Madison (Caitlin Thompson). Kevin was in Vancouver to shoot a movie. But, Madison went into early labor in LA. The episode ended with Kevin driving off into the night. Then the preview for “There” caused fans to panic.

The promo highlighted a clip of a car accident with Kevin’s ID clearly on the ground. Naturally, many viewers assumed the worst. But, Kevin’s already been seen in the far-future. So, it’s likely the character will survive whatever happens in the next episode.

This Is Us Season 5 Episode 7 is expected to air on Tuesday, Feb. 9, on NBC.
