‘This Is Us’ Season 5, Episode 13: New Sneak Peek Gives Insight Into ‘Brotherly Love’
When This Is Us returns on April 13, 2021, for season 5, episode 13, things will get tense between Randall (Sterling K. Brown) and Kevin (Justin Hartley). The two brothers had a blowout fight in the season 4 finale. Now, Kevin carved out time to fly across the country and have a serious conversation with his brother when This Is Us, “Brotherly Love,” airs. Below is a sneak peek of how the “talk” begins.
‘This Is Us’ Season 4 finale: Randall and Kevin’s harsh insults
During the This Is Us Season 4 finale, Randall and Kevin said some very nasty things to each other. Kevin was upset at Randall for forcing their mother, Rebecca (Mandy Moore), to be a part of a clinical trial in St. Louis. However, the fight was the culmination of years of pent-up frustrations between the two boys as they grew into men.
“He died ashamed of you,” Randall told Kevin. Then he added, “You’re not even chasing Dad’s shadow, Kevin, you’re chasing mine. You’ll never be him, and you’ll never be me. Because you’ll never know what it’s like to devote yourself to anyone other than yourself. You’ll pretend, but it’ll just be a performance, tired, stale performance, like all of your performances.”
Kevin quickly fought back with an equally terrible insult.
“You know, I used to think the worst thing that happened to me was the day that Dad died,” Kevin began. “It’s the day they brought you home. Hand to God Randall, the worst thing that ever happened to me was the day they brought you home.”
‘This Is Us’ Season 5, Episode 13: Randall and Kevin finally talk
In the latest sneak peek of This Is Us Season 5, Episode 13, Kevin flies to Randall’s home for a heart-to-heart. Randall asks about his flight, and the two brothers share some small talk about Sudoku and Robert De Niro. Then, Kevin jumps right to the point of his visit.
“Look, I don’t want to beat around the bush,” Kevin begins in the clip from People.
Randall seems surprised that Kevin wants to jump right into their difficult conversation.
“Look, I just feel like it would be easy to start catching up, you know, and fall back into our rhythm without actually talking,” Kevin continues. “And I don’t want this to get away from me. Randall, there’s some things I need to say to you.”
Randall nods, ready for where Kevin is going to go.
“Here we go,” the father of three replies as Kevin repeats: “Here we go.”
The clip ends before the conversation goes any further.
Fans are hopeful for Randall and Kevin in ‘This Is Us’ Season 5, Episode 13
After Randall attended a group therapy session in the last episode, fans are hopeful that the conversation between the councilman and his brother will go better.
“I think he is both relieved that he found people that share his experience, but at the same time, he also saw the whole experience in a different light,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “I imagine him repressing his feelings for a long time, then letting them all out as an explosion in the fight with Kevin and the events that were taking place. Now, he is in a more peaceful state, where he can acknowledge his situation and feel good and bad at the same time with it.”
Since both men have grown and changed since the blowout fight, fans are hopeful that they can make amends. In the future, they might have a deeper relationship.
