‘This Is Us’: The Surprising Connection Between Beyoncé and Beth Pearson

This Is Us is a world where most people can connect with at least one character. Beth Pearson (Susan Kelechi Watson), resonates with many for her unwavering support of husband, Randall (Sterling K. Brown), and her strength and courage under fire. Beth is, as some deemed, #wifegoals. That said, there’s actually a surprising connection between Beth and iconic Lemonade singer, Beyoncé. Yes — we said Beyoncé.

Teen Beth did this 1 thing when Randall invited her over for dinner

Beth and Randall aren’t perfect but their marriage has proven to stand the test of time. With all the obstacles raising three girls (one of which is adopted), Randall’s run for City Council, and Beth opening her own dance studio, they find a way to thrive.

Fans previously feared the worst for the couple who met in college. However, a flash-forward cleared up any divorce theories. The two appeared to still be together at the end of Rebecca’s days.

Their solid now, but the lovebirds didn’t always know how to navigate each other’s space. Randall (Niles Fitch) fell head over heels for, who he deemed to be, a young woman out of his league. Beth (Rachel Wilson) was closed off after the loss of her father, reeling from a complicated relationship with her mother.

One defining moment in the early days of their relationship came during a dinner Rebecca (Mandy Moore) hosted with Miguel (Jon Huertas). It occurred about a year after Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) died.

Newlyweds Kevin (Logan Shroyer) and Sophie (Amanda Leighton), and Kate (Hannah Zeile) and her questionable boyfriend, Marc (Austin Abrams), also attended the meal that didn’t go as Rebecca hoped.

Randall, who desperately wanted his mother and Beth to adore one another, couldn’t control his nerves. Beth saw Randall for who he was early on. She accepted him and comforted him. But, how Rebecca felt about Beth mattered more to Randall than anything and she was having a pretty had day.

Beth offered Rebecca something that reminded her of her father: a bottle of hot sauce. It was a way of bridging the gap between families and something that meant a lot to her father. Beth carried on the tradition as a way of honoring him knowing it’d be a great conversation starter.

Luckily, it worked, easing tensions within Randall and Rebecca. The offering became a new starting point for all to move forward. So, what does a thread on This Is Us this have to do with Beyoncé?

Beyoncé also carries hot sauce in her bag

Beyoncé, who prefers a vegan lifestyle to maintain her incredible fitness, took a page out of teen Beth’s handbook. That’s right — Queen Bey also carries around hot sauce.

The “Formation” singer maintains her privacy as much as possible. There isn’t a lot known about Bey’s diet or if there’s an emotional reason she carries hot sauce in her bag as Beth did.

Regardless of why the connection is evident and is something true This Is Us fans already knew: Beth and Beyoncé are next-level.

There’s another connection between Beyoncé and ‘This Is Us’

Believe it or not, the cast of This Is Us draws another comparison to Beyoncé. Remember when Jack’s death was the mystery of the century? Apparently, the cast went to great lengths to keep it all under wraps.

In a previous joint interview on The Jimmy Fallon Show, the stars discussed how they were able to keep the secret from being leaked.

“We had scripts that were on red paper because they can’t be photocopied,” Ventimiglia said. “We had a password when talking about the actual event.

Moore continued, explaining the connection to Queen Bey.

“We heard [Beyoncé’s] Lemonade was called ‘Marble,’ or our writers did, so they decided our episode, this experience, was going to be titled ‘Marble.'”

There you have it — proof Beyoncé is evergreen, even in the multi-generational stories of teen Beth, and the Pearson family forevermore.
