Eminem mercilessly slammed rapper Machine Gun Kelly on his latest album, Kamikaze. In response, MGK released a diss track. But why is there bad blood between the two artists? We’ll break the history of their beef down for you.

Here’s why Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly are feuding.

How it all started

The strain between Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly started in 2012, when he made an unsavory comment amount Eminem’s daughter, Hailie. The rapper tweeted that Hailie was “hot as [insert expletive here].”

Haile was just a teenager during the time Machine Gun Kelly made that comment, so Eminem was understandably upset about this public observation. And Eminem is not one to sit quietly if someone disrespects him or his family. On his album Kamikaze Eminem directly addresses Machine Gun Kelly on the song “Not Alike.” He raps, “And I’m talkin’ to you / but you already know who the [expletive] you are, Kelly / I don’t use sublims and sure as [expletive] don’t sneak-diss / But keep commenting on my daughter Hailie.”

Machine Gun Kelly’s response

Machine Gun Kelly is also not one to be silent in the face of a diss track. Apparently, his feelings were hurt, because he quickly recorded a new diss track called “Rap Devil.” In the lyrics, Machine Gun Kelly says, “Took you six years and a surprise album just to come with a diss.” However, there were even more biting lyrics to follow.

The rapper also pokes fun of how much Eminem pays for security. He seems to think a tough-talking rapper should be able to defend himself with a lot less protection. But he didn’t stop there. Machine Gun Kelly also makes fun of Eminem because he’s an older rapper. Says Machine Gun Kelly in his rap, “Tough talk from a rapper paying millions for security a year / ‘I think my dad’s gone crazy,’ yeah Hailie you right / Dad’s always mad cooped up in the studio yelling at the mic / You’re sober and bored, huh (I know) / About to be 46 years old, dog.”

No one wants a problem with Eminem

Machine Gun Kelly is quite bold. It is widely known in the music community that Eminem is not the rapper you want to disrespect. He has a reputation for putting other artists in their place. A few years ago, rapper The Game said during an interview, “If you notice, in Hip Hop, Eminem is the only rapper that nobody ever wants a problem with, including myself. Eminem is the most lyrically insane … I don’t think there’s a rapper he won’t slay. You don’t want to war with Eminem, he’s crazy … You don’t want a beef with Eminem. He shreds MCs.” Even comedian Chris Rock joked about how unwise it is to say anything bad about Eminem.

What’s in store for Machine Gun Kelly?

We don’t know what will happen next, but we’re expecting Eminem will respond, and we don’t think it will be pretty. No one wants problems with Eminem, and Machine Gun Kelly decided to test the waters. Only time will tell how Eminem will react.
