This is Why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Might Home School Baby Archie
Ever since Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced that they were pregnant, people have been obsessed with Baby Sussex. Even before Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor came into the world, people couldn’t stop hypothesizing about what the baby would be like, how he would be raised, and what his place in the royal family would be.
One thing that people knew for sure is that Archie’s upbringing would be a little bit different than his cousins’.
Markle and Prince Harry do things their own way
From the moment the pregnancy was made public, it was clear that Markle and Prince Harry were going to carve out their own route to parenthood. Early on, they announced that they wouldn’t be having their baby at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s hospital, where the rest of the royal family has been giving birth for decades. Some people took that as a blatant sign of disrespect, as both Princess Diana and Kate Middleton gave birth there.
The couple also decided not to take photos on the hospital steps immediately after giving birth as Middleton and Prince William did.
“The fact that they decided not to is obviously a defiant gesture saying this is our private act. So that has definitely upset people a lot,” said CBS News contributor Tina Brown and author of “The Diana Chronicles.”
“It has really, really angered the press,” Brown continued. “I’m not so sure that was the greatest of moves in terms of the whole perception and popularity, but on the other hand, this is a very private event. She’s allowed to do what she wants after having the baby.”
Markle also chose to pick her own OBGYN instead of using one of the queen’s doctors.
“[Duchess] Kate didn’t do that because Kate always is so perfect. She just did exactly what she was supposed to do,” Brown said. “But Meghan, again, she’s an independent woman of her own thinking.”
Will Markle and Harry homeschool Archie?
Since we know that Prince Harry and Markle do what they want, there is no way to guess how they will raise their child. However, it was recently reported that the pair were thinking about moving to Africa for a few years.
“There’s no doubt that Harry and Meghan want a bit of freedom from the U.S.” reporter Roya Nikkhah told CBS News. “They want a little bit of freedom from the institution.”
The couple has already spent some time together in Botswana.
“I managed to come and persuade her to come join me in Botswana, and we camped out with each other under the stars,” Harry said in their engagement TV interview in 2017. On top of that, one of the diamonds from Markle’s engagement ring is from Botswana, so the couple certainly has a connection to the region.
If the Duke and Duchess do decide to spend an extended amount of time in Africa, it would only make sense that they homeschool Archie. Having him start school in the UK and then transferring to Africa would greatly disrupt his education. Instead, employing a tutor who could travel with the family would be a much more plausible option.
