This Person Begged Prince Harry to Come Back to the U.K. Because ‘They Need Him’
Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex officially stepped down from their roles as senior royals on March 31 and moved to America. Some wished the couple well while others were sad to see them go including one person who was so upset they wrote Prince Harry a letter pleading with the duke to return to the United Kingdom soon because “he is needed.”
Prince Harry and Meghan put down roots in Santa Barbara
After they left the U.K., the duke and duchess moved to Canada then Los Angeles and were staying at the Beverly Hills estate of media mogul Tyler Perry. In August, Harry and Meghan left that residence and moved to Montecito in Santa Barbara county.
Forbes noted that the Sussexes purchased the Chateau of Riven Rock mansion from Russian businessman Sergey Grishin. The home is 19,000 square feet with nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. It also has a guest house, a tea house, a children’s playset, a tennis court, and a swimming pool.
“They have settled into the quiet privacy of their community since their arrival and hope that this will be respected for their neighbors, as well as for them as a family,” the pair’s spokesperson told Hello! magazine.
Who wrote a letter to Harry asking him not to stay away?
Someone who had hoped the prince’s choice to live across the pond wasn’t permanent is the man who was involved in the plan to send Harry to Afghanistan in 2007, General Sir Richard Dannatt.
“Harry and Meghan are very much involved in other things and that’s their life choice and I don’t criticize them for that,” the former army chief told the Sunday People (per The Express). “But it means that he is not as available, not supporting in such a high-profile fashion, the work of charities and the needs of veterans… We miss him and I hope that in a change of circumstances, that I can’t envisage, he returns to take up more traditional royal duties in this country.”
General Dannatt revealed that he even wrote Harry a letter “pleading with him not to stay away from the U.K. for long because the veterans need him.”
Will the Sussexes spend Christmas in the U.K. or the U.S. this year?
For those wondering when Prince Harry will actually make it back to the U.K., that remains unclear. There were initial reports that the duke and duchess were going to fly to England and spend Christmas with the royal family at the Sandringham Estate. However, it’s now being claimed that the couple will remain in California this year and will spend the holiday with Harry’s “surrogate father,” record producer David Foster.
According to The Mirror, the Sussexes are making plans to have Christmas with Foster and his wife, Katharine McPhee. The actress, who is friends with Meghan, recently revealed to Access Hollywood that her hubby and the prince are quite close.
“My husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry. They’re so cute. They’re like father and son,” McPhee gushed.
A source shared that “Meghan very much wants to host the first Christmas at their new home with her mum. She’s really excited and is planning on doing all the traditions she grew up with as a child including the cooking.”
