This ‘The X-Files’ Cast Member Can’t Believe His Daughter’s Friends Recognized Him
The X-Files, the popular TV show about government-conspiracy-busting FBI agents, aired in 1993. Other than the main characters, Agent Scully and Agent Mulder (played by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny), one of the most important characters in the series is Walter Skinner, the FBI’s tough-but-fair Assistant Director. Mitch Pileggi, the actor cast as AD Skinner, says his daughter’s friends proved that The X-Files is still relevant.
‘The X-Files’ cast member can’t believe that the show is still relevant after 11 seasons
In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Pileggi described his reaction to getting to be a part of The X-Files. Between the originally-aired seasons and the reboot, the series has been part of his life for over a decade.
“It’s amazing and wonderful,” Pileggi gushed. Telling a personal story, the X-Files actor proved that the show is definitely still picking up fans.
“I remember when my daughter was 13 — she’s 17 now,” Pileggi recalled to the Dallas paper. “And she had a couple of friends come over to the house.”
The X-Files cast member says the girls were acting strangely.
“They were very quiet the whole time,” he remembered. “After they left,” he asked her about it.
“They were so quiet around me,” Pileggi said to his daughter. “Did they think I was weird or something?” However, that wasn’t the case. It was more that they were star-struck by The X-Files star.
“Daddy, as soon as they got outside,'” the 13-year-old said, “they whipped around and said, ‘You didn’t tell us your dad was Skinner!’” How did Pileggi feel?
“I couldn’t believe it,” he said. He expanded on this point to the Dallas Morning News:
“These were 13-year-old girls who knew the show nearly a decade after it had ended. Not only has the show sustained a following, but it also has gained a new generation of fans.”
Mitch Pileggi, the actor behind the character of Assistant Director Walter Skinner, was influenced by his father
In a New York Post article from 5 years ago, Pileggi spoke candidly about his role on The X-Files. Speaking at a press event promoting the 2016 reboot, the actor says his own parent heavily influenced his performance in The X-Files.
“The character very much is very similar to my father,” Pileggi said at the time. “His bearing and demeanor seeped into what I was doing as Skinner.”
The cast member added that even his siblings and other relatives noticed the similarities.
The Post also reported that Pileggi started to get teary-eyed talking about his dad, and his dad’s relationship to AD Skinner. Speaking about the X-Files creator Chis Carter, Pileggi sounded more than grateful.
“He gave me a wonderful character I could do that with,” Pileggi said.
