‘Thor: Love And Thunder’ Casting News: Will Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster Return?
Actor Jeff Goldblum first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Thor: Ragnarok. Now, he’s speaking about the upcoming sequel, Thor: Love and Thunder. Will he return for the fourth installment of the series? Let’s find out.
Jeff Goldblum portrayed the Grandmaster in ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

Ragnarok, the third film in the epic MCU trilogy, saw the titular hero arrive on a new planet, Sakaar, where he is taken in as a contender to fight the champion. The leader pulling the strings of the contest is known as the Grandmaster, portrayed by Goldblum.
The character is, while not the villain of the movie, an obstacle in Thor’s way, while also helping to reconnect with Bruce Banner / the Hulk as well as his mischevious brother, Loki. He’s also the reason Thor meets Valkyrie. Goldblum’s portrayal was also one of the most entertaining of the flick.
Here’s who’s coming back for the Marvel sequel
Generally, the solo adventures of the MCU have relegated to three entries per character. However, this was not a hard and fast rule, and after the success of Ragnarok, the powers that be were eager to commission a fourth Thor film. Enter Love and Thunder, which was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2019.
So far, four familiar characters are set to return. Taika Waititi as Korg, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie (and the King of New Asgard), Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, who will take on the powers bestowed upon Thor herself. Waititi will also return as the film’s director.
Will Goldblum return for ‘Thor: Love And Thunder’?
There were only two other major characters from Ragnarok who are still alive: Banner and the Grandmaster. There’s no word yet on Mark Ruffalo’s future in the MCU. But what about Goldblum’s?
“We’re talking about it, in fact,” whispered Goldblum in a recent BuzzFeed Interview in which he got to play with puppies. “I hope so. I love Taika Waititi. He’s a great director and a friend of mine. So I hope so.”
The MCU series he’s working on now
Though we don’t know when we’ll next see him in person, Goldblum is reprising the Grandmaster in a new project. The Disney+ animated series What If…? will see him, along with many other MCU favorites, returning to voice his character.
“I played the part again a couple of days ago,” said Goldblum. “I went to the Disney studios and I recorded the Grandmaster’s voice for an episode of the show.” He continued, “This episode included the Grandmaster and Iron Man, so Robert Downey [Jr.] will do a voice in that. And Korg, Taika Waititi had already recorded his voice for that.”
Goldblum’s other Disney+ project
In addition to What If…? the actor has his own new original series on Disney+. The World According to Jeff Goldblum sees him exploring various subjects, from ice cream to sneakers to tattoos, and learning more about them. Episodes will be released each Friday on Disney+.
