‘Thor: Love & Thunder’: The Guardians Might Be More Involved in the Story Than We Originally Thought

While Marvel has announced many future movies and shows, one movie that Marvel fans are almost universally excited for is Thor: Love & Thunder.

This is largely because Taika Waititi, who directed Thor: Ragnarok, is returning to direct again, and fans absolutely loved what he did with Thor: Ragnarok. On top of that, Waititi somehow got many new and old characters to join the movie, and in a way, Thor: Love and Thunder is shaping up to be a mini-Avengers. Some of those old characters include The Guardians of the Galaxy, but that was to be expected given how things ended in Avengers: Endgame.

That being said, Marvel fans are beginning to suspect that The Guardians will be more important in Thor: Love and Thunder than they originally expected.

At the end of Endgame, a lot has changed. Thor steps down from his role and makes Valkyrie the ruler of Asgard. He doesn’t really know what he’ll be doing going forward, but he does know that he’ll be doing it with The Guardians and their ship.

That being said, The Guardians have also changed a lot by this point in time. Gamora, who died in Infinity War before the snap, was brought back to life due to time travel shenanigans. However, she’s a different person from the Gamora that The Guardians knew, and she went on her own way after Thanos was defeated.

In her place however, Nebula has joined the crew, as did Thor. He jokingly referred to the crew as being The Asgardians of the Galaxy, and that seems to be where Thor: Love and Thunder will pick up.

Like Marvel fans on Reddit discussed, the way Endgame ended made it seem like Thor was just going to be a temporary part of The Guardians. However, the actors who play The Guardians recently mentioned that they were flying to Australia to film Thor: Love & Thunder.

Due to that, many Marvel fans have begun to think that the Guardians may have a bigger role in the movie than they previously thought.

As one fan said, “At first I thought the Guardians in Thor 4 was just a brief scene or two as they dropped Thor off before going on their own adventures. I’m guessing that now I am wrong & I love that.”

To be fair however, fans are only speculating about what The Guardians will be doing in the movie. That’s because, due to the pandemic, Australia is one of the few places where filming a movie is possible. And due to that, like one fan wrote, “Whether it’s a 1 second scene for the entire movie, they’d need to go to Australia regardless.”

What we know of ‘Thor: Love and Thunder’ so far

However, it’s very likely that Marvel didn’t go through all that trouble just to film a few short scenes with The Asgardians of the Galaxy. With Thor as part of the crew, The Asgardians of the Galaxy was one of the funniest parts of Infinity War and Endgame, and Marvel may want to use The Asgardians of the Galaxy more often in the MCU.

On top of that, it’s well-known by fans that Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster will be returning in this movie, but she’ll be different. It’s not clear how this will happen in the movie, but Jane will be turning into the Mighty Thor, and she’ll probably be able to use all of Thor’s weapons as well.

The other high-profile hire is Christian Bale, who will be playing Gorr the God Butcher. It’s not currently clear how Gorr will fit into the picture, but Marvel fans are excited to find out.
