How Is T.I.’s Daughter Deyjah Harris Doing Amid The ‘Virginity Test’ Backlash?

The internet was set ablaze this week when rapper T.I. revealed that he attends his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris’ OBGYN appointments, and demands to know if her hymen is intact. It’s a gross violation of privacy and extremely misogynist. On a since-deleted episode of Ladies Like Us podcast called “Life Hacks,” the Atlanta-born rapper revealed,

Deyjah’s just graduated high school now and she’s attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And yes, not only have we had the conversation, we have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.

The comments are sexist, disgusting, creepy, and offensive, and the backlash has been swift. But how is Deyjah Harris, the young lady who has been thrust amid this media firestorm handling it all?

Deyjah Harris does not support her father T.I’s invasive behavior

Harris has not publically commented on her father’s yearly trips with her to the gynecologist. However, she has liked several tweets referring to the Rythm +Flow judge’s actions as “disgusting” and “possessive.” She also hopped on Twitter to say, “I loveeeeeee yalllllll” with a sad face emoji. In addition to being publicly humiliated, Harris has also had to deal with a slew of sexual and alarming comments on her social media pages from horrible predatory men.

Thankfully, many people are showing Harris love and support.

The hosts of ‘Ladies Like Us’ deleted the podcast episode and issued an apology

With such personal and private information about Harris on the podcast, the “Life Hacks” episode should have never aired in the first place. Now, Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham, the hosts of Ladies Like Us have issued an apology and deleted the episode. They said,

To everyone confused, angry and hurt by the recent episode of Ladies Like Us, we want to start off by saying that we sincerely apologize for our knee jerk reaction to the uncomfortable topic. We were completely caught off guard/shocked and looking back, we should have reacted much differently in the moment. The comments that were made and the reaction that followed are not in any way a reflection of our personal views on the topic. We support and love Women and feel that their bodies are theirs to do as they wish. There was absolutely no ill intent towards any party involved & feel deeply awful about the entire incident. We are not perfect, take full accountability of our lack of action & are continuously learning along the way. We know an apology doesn’t make this go away but we welcome the discussion -that’s what our podcast is about.

Unfortunately, the internet is forever, and the damage has been one.

Planned Parenthood has issued a statement against T.I’s behavior

T.I.’s horrendous behavior has blown up so much that Planned Parenthood has issued a statement. They tweeted,

A virgin is someone who’s never had sex. But “sex” means different things to different people, so “virginity” does too. Many don’t care what it means or think it matters. Whatever you believe, the fact is you can’t tell if someone’s had sex by checking their hymen. Some people think you can tell if someone’s had sex before if their hymen is stretched open. But that’s not the case. Say it with us: YOU👏CAN’T👏TELL👏IF👏SOMEONE’S👏HAD👏SEX👏BY👏THE👏WAY👏THEIR👏HYMEN👏LOOKS👏OR👏FEELS.

Unfortunately, T.I. has not apologized for humiliating his daughter or for his horrendous behavior.
