‘Today Show’s’ Al Roker Can Now Add ‘Father of the Bride’ To His List of Credits
Al Roker of the Today Show continues to report from home amid the coronavirus crisis. As the morning show weather man, co-host, and feature reporter, Roker has also dabbled in acting with his turns on Broadway and cameos in TV and film.
Roker is a hands-on family man, often speaking fondly of his three kids – daughters Courtney (from a previous marriage) and Leila, and son Nicholas with wife Deborah Roberts of ABC News. The dad of three received some very exciting news from his oldest child over the weekend, sharing that he has an upcoming wedding to attend.
Al Roker reports the weather from home
Reporting from home since mid-March due to safety guidelines in place during the COVID-19 outbreak, Roker hasn’t missed a beat from his makeshift studio at home. He immediately gave props to his Today team for getting him set up to broadcast from the remote site.
“Our crack #techsupport team at @nbcnews #fieldtransmission has my tech outfitted so I will be broadcasting from the Roker/Roberts #kitchen tomorrow am on @todayshow and @3rdhourtoday,” he posted on Instagram on March 16.
After being exposed to a colleague who works on the 3rd hour of Today that was diagnosed with coronavirus in mid-March, Roker decided to self-isolate as a precaution and shared with viewers that he had plenty of help getting on the air from home.
“Part of the team getting yours truly on the air with @todayshow weather @3rdhourtoday,” the Today star posted on Instagram. “Thanks to Don Tshounikas in his home, @kathrynprociv is in @30rockefellerplaza and @brianvanaken at home. I am on my iPad so NO @nbcnews crew is with me as I hang at home out of an abundance of caution following a brief interaction with one of our producers who tested positive.”
‘Today’ star’s daughter posts engagement news
Roker’s daughter Courtney, a trained chef and recipe developer for the kitchen appliance company Chefman, took to Intstagram over the weekend to announce her engagement to boyfriend Wes Laga, sharing that the two had originally planned on being in the City of Lights at this time.
“Life sometimes takes you in a different direction for a reason,” Courtney captioned the pic of herself with Laga showing off her sparkling ring. “We should have been in Paris, but with how the world is at the moment, it was placed on hold. Instead, Wes brought Paris to me with the music, lights and live cam shot of the Eiffel Tower on our TV.”
The bride-to-be revealed her response and expressed her devotion to her fiancé in her joyful post. “I said yes to my best friend last night and I am over the moon!” Courtney wrote. “Thank you Wes for making me your partner in crime for life. I love you.”
Al Roker shares the news
Speaking of his daughter’s engagement on this morning’s broadcast, Roker shared that Laga had taken the traditional route and approached him about a month and a half ago asking for permission to propose to Courtney. Waiting until his daughter made the initial announcement, the Today star then shared the happy headline on Instagram.
“I was waiting to get the ok, but now that it’s on her insta, we are so thrilled the @djweslaga asked @ouichefcourtney to marry him. #shesaidyes Could not be more thrilled for these two,” the weather man posted.
Congrats from Roker’s Today colleagues poured in. “WOW!!!!!!!!” co-host Savannah Guthrie wrote.
“Amazing!” West Coast anchor Natalie Morales posted, adding “it’s so nice to have good news during this time.” Willie Geist commented, “Congrats, Courtney and Papa Al!”
“Whoohooo!!!!!” weather correspondent Dylan Dreyer cheered, with co-host Carson Daly responding, “Lezzz goooooo!!”
No wedding date has been set at this time, but Roker and his family aren’t waiting to celebrate the happy news.
