‘Today Show’s’ Dylan Dreyer Welcomes Second Child
It’s a boy!
Dreyer’s second son, Oliver George, arrived at 9:13 a.m. local time on Thursday, January 2, weighing 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measuring 19 inches long, according to People.
“All I do is stare at him,” Dreyer said during her Today call-in on Friday. “I just want to kiss him every second. And he’s got a ton of hair.”
When it was time to head to the hospital, big brother Calvin was ready to head out the door with excitement. “Calvin woke up, he wanted to get dressed, he wanted to come with us [to the hospital]. I said, ‘Mommy and Daddy have to leave, but you’re gonna come to the hospital and meet Oliver today,’” Dryer recalled. “He had his shoes on and his jacket on. He was so ready to come! And then he walks in with this huge smile on his face. He sits on my lap and he looks at Oliver and he asks to hold him right away. It was perfect.”
The Today co-host couldn’t be more thrilled with her family of four. “Now, it feels complete. The four of us … everything about it just feels right,” the mom of two said. “There was no adjustment period. It’s like, ‘Oh yeah, this is us. This is our family.’ “
Waiting for little brother
Apparently, Calvin has been counting the days until his little brother arrived. Dreyer spoke to People about her happiness of giving Calvin a baby brother shortly after announcing her happy news in July of expecting another child. “[The baby] continues to grow healthy and strong each day. I’m so excited for Calvin to have a little [sibling],” she said. “He sort of understands what’s going on but when you ask him about the baby, he says he wants to pet it. So we’ll see!”
While Dreyer was a little concerned on what to expect with two young children on the home front, her Today colleagues were able to offer some invaluable tips. Carson Daly, who is currently a father of three and expecting a fourth in the spring with wife Siri, recommended Calvin to bring some gifts to his baby brother.
“What we did when we had Etta, our second child, to ease the thing for Jackson (Daly’s firstborn son) or Calvin … it would be like new baby would give Calvin little gifts every now and again and the gifts wouldn’t be from mom and dad but from baby brother or sister,” Daly suggested, as reported by Today.com. “By the time the baby comes out, the kid thinks you’re giving birth to Santa Claus.”
In December, Dryer’s Today Show family threw her a surprise baby shower decked out with a sports theme. Her co-hosts Al Roker, Craig Melvin, Sheinelle Jones, Hoda Kotb, and Jenna Bush Hager – who just returned in November from maternity leave – were all in attendance along with Dreyer’s husband.
“It was a shock and a different kind of surprise because I knew I was going somewhere dressed up for a holiday promo shoot,” the Today co-host said of the shindig, which was held at a New York City sports lounge. To go along with the athletic motif, the dessert table included cake pops in the form of baseballs, tennis balls, footballs, and basketballs.
“I knew I was going to see everybody I work with, but when I walked in [and] there was this tunnel of people waiting for me to walk through the door and the camera lights were there, I was like, ‘What is going on?’” Dryer shared. “It took a minute for it to register. Then I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is all for me. This is so, so special.’”
Congrats to the Dreyer family!
